1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
A pinch of asafoetida (hing) (optional)

Salt to taste
1 teaspoon jaggery or sugar (optional, for balance)
Water (as needed)

For Tempering (Optional):
1 tablespoon oil
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
A few curry leaves
