After four years working in construction and restoration with his father (Salvatore Calleja from Xewkija Gozo), Mr. Calleja had inherited his father’s fame, which was well known around Malta and Gozo for restoring and constructing some of the great and most beautiful churches and historic buildings of the islands. It was then w

hen he had decided to continue on his father steps and opted to work on construction and restoration. He then started to employ a small group of people to work as ‘manuals’ and later employed other skilled men such as painters, electricians, etc. Some of his major works include; the building of the Church of Queen Mary in Marsa; alterations and reconstruction of the belfries of the Church dedicated to the Holy Trinity in Marsa; restoration and alterations to the belfries, façade and the dome of Christ the King Church in Paola; restoration and alterations of the dome and belfries and reconstruction of the interior of Saint Gaetan Church in Hamrun; restoration and alterations to the domes and belfries of Our Lady of Victories Church in Senglea, Saint Lawrence Church in Vittoriosa, Immaculate Conception of Our Lady Church in Cospicua, Saint Andrew Church in Luqa, Stella Maris Church in Sliema and Church of Trasfiguration in Lija.
