First Flowering : Nov 2022
(Almost all aborted except 2 fruits)

First Harvest : Maybe June/July 2023
(Soon 😅…. want to enjoy the beauty of the hanging yellow lemons a little while before harvesting)

Currently : 2nd season flowering and more than 20 fruits have set.

History : Airlayered from a friend’s mama Meyer and transferred into a 30cm airpot. Setup is a good soil mixture plus a worm tower to nourish with composting kitchen scraps. Regular nutrients are CC, CC+ and FF. Once in a while spray Herbi under the leaves to deter pests. (fortunately not many pests on the 12th floor 🤪)

Cecelia has patiently groomed this beautiful single stem 🍋South African Eureka Lemon baby to be strong n sturdy…… and finally when fruiting season comes, the structure is ready to support big fruits without branches breaking.

So proud of you n your lemon baby Cecelia…… I’m so touched that u wanted to give me your first fruit ❤️🙏…… but keep it yourself, it’s the fruit of your labour of love🍋. Savour the experience of making your first harvest. It’s an unforgettable money can’t buy experience 🥰

When it was time to transfer around 6mths old, Cecelia dug a hole in the ground n fill up with good soil n compost. Then put a 50cm pot on top till half buried. Need big holes at the bottom of the pot. Eventually the roots will grown downwards. This makes the plant healthy n strong as the roots have space to grow deep.

She diligently feeds CC+ & FF every week besides adding scraps n compost to Worm Tower. She’s also very sharp eyed to catch any pests before they multiply. Purposeful pruning is important to build this sturdy n well balanced structure. 💪

‼️Remember…… groom strong structure n healthy root system before fruiting season. ❤️

Young plants that are allowed to fruit too early may be stunted or even die after fruiting. 😣🙏

Fruitful South African Eureka Lemon (SAL) grown on a balcony….. 😍

All it took was 6 days from a pristine healthy fig baby (see earlier post) to be highly stressed and shed all its leaves...

All it took was 6 days from a pristine healthy fig baby (see earlier post) to be highly stressed and shed all its leaves 😭

But luckily the root system is still robust, and with some TLC, the adoptive parent successfully nurtured it back to vibrant health in 2-3weeks. 👍👍❤️
