This Platycerium akki video was filmed in early January. The new shield frond has started to develop gear-like pointed edges, and I’m looking forward to it growing taller and sharper than the previous shield frond.

JMhobbist was founded in 2017. In the beginning, we focused on promoting mulberry trees — sharing different varieties, flavors, and cultivation techniques. Later on, we started exploring and promoting staghorn ferns as well.
After so many years, my relative’s Taiwanese mulberry trees have finally entered a high-yield season. The fruits are very long, high in sweetness, and even carry a hint of starfruit flavor. They are also relatively easy to grow.
The only downside is that the fruits are not suitable for long storage. Once ripe, they need to be eaten immediately. With refrigeration, they can be kept for about a week.

最好的介质没有之一

你知道種鹿角蕨最好的介質是什麼嗎?!

答案其實很單純——
就是它自己的營養葉!沒有之一!

在雨林裡,每一種植物都在競爭。
競爭光線、競爭水分、競爭養分。

鹿角蕨也不例外

為了在這樣的環境中生存,它演化出一套非常獨特且高效率的機制

鹿角蕨是典型的附生植物(Epiphyte),
附著在大樹幹上生長,不與地面植物爭奪土壤資源,同時能獲得更好的光線與空氣流動

而真正厲害的,是鹿角蕨的[營養葉]

有些品種(例如:女王、巨獸、爪哇等)
營養葉像漏斗一樣向上包覆,承接雨水、枯枝與落葉,這些有機物在時間中慢慢分解,形成腐殖質,成為鹿角蕨最穩定的養分來源。

有些品種(例如:亞猴、非猴等)
營養葉則會層層包覆成圓潤的結構,像高麗菜一樣緊密堆疊,內部形成溫暖、穩定的小型生態系,吸引螞蟻與昆蟲棲息。

這些小生物的排泄物與自然死亡後的有機質,
最終也轉化為鹿角蕨的養分來源。

這不是巧合,而是演化。

營養葉會隨著時間一層一層堆疊。老化後並不是「沒用」,反而變得柔軟、有彈性

它們像天然的海綿一樣吸水、儲水,而且越老的營養葉,纖維結構越鬆軟,越能為根系提供溫柔的緩衝環境。

鹿角蕨的根並不是為了抓取土壤而設計,而是為了抓附與吸收。

當根系穿過這些層層堆疊的營養葉時,會在其中長出大量細密的根毛,在濕潤、通氣又富含有機質的環境中,高效率吸收水分與養分。

每一層營養葉之間都保留微小空隙,這些空隙讓空氣可以流通,同時又能鎖住濕氣,形成[濕潤但不積水]的完美環境。

所以當我們種鹿角蕨時,介質不是越多越好,適當的介質,也給營養葉一點時間跟空間,讓它自然生長、堆疊、老化。

真正最強的介質
從來都不是外加的水苔或樹皮
而是它自己建立起來的生態系統

這,就是鹿角蕨的智慧。
