Water damage around the sink often starts small — worn silicone, tiny gaps, or trapped moisture — and stays hidden until the cabinet becomes severely weakened. A few simple habits can help prevent long-term damage:

• Reseal worn silicone early. Any peeling or mouldy sealant allows water to seep through.

• Look out for early signs. Dark patches, swelling, or a musty smell inside the cabinet usually mean moisture is trapped.

• Use waterproof materials in wet zones. If you’re upgrading, PVC FoamBoard is far more durable than plywood and won’t swell or rot.

For this project, we rebuilt the sink base using PVC FoamBoard and installed a new quartz countertop — giving the kitchen a cleaner, stronger, longer-lasting finish.
