How to measure curtain, blinds, drapes and valance.

Step 1: Measure for length, from the top of your window frame to wherever you want the panels to fall. They can go down to the floor if you want them to skim the ground with no puddling on the bottom (which makes them easier to clean), or down to the floor plus a few additional inches if you prefer a puddled look.
Step 2: Decide where you want to put the curtain rod. It’s typically placed midway between the ceiling and the window frame, but you can also mount it closer to the window frame or closer to the ceiling, depending on your wall space. To draw the eye upward so the ceiling appears higher, place the rod where the wall meets the ceiling. Count how many inches above the window frame the rod will be, and add that to your length measurement from Step 1.
Step 3: Decide how you want to hang the curtains on the rod—options include clip rings, which clip onto the top of the fabric; a pocket rod, which is a pocket sewn into the top of the fabric so you can place the rod right through it; grommets, which are metal rings that you place over holes made along the top of the fabric; or sewn-in rings, which are sewn into the fabric. When you know which one you’ll use, you’ll know if you need more or less fabric to make it work. Fabric on a clip ring or a sewn-in ring, for example, will hang about an inch lower to the ground than fabric hung with grommets, so adjust your measurement from Step 2 accordingly.
Step 4: Measure the width of your window from one edge of the frame to the other. If you’re using a tension rod, which you will set inside the window frame, measure inside the frame from one end to the other.
Step 5: Add an extra 2½ inches to each side to account for hemming. The result is the amount of fabric you’ll need.

Paint Colours That Can Help You Get A Great Night's Sleep And Enhance Sexual Activities.

More sleep and more s*x? Yes, please! A new survey involving 2,000 Brits shows a strong correlation between the colour of your bedroom walls and décor with how much sleep and s*x you're having. The takeaway: People with blue rooms appear to be getting the best night's sleep, while people with caramel-coloured walls are having the most s*x. Let the mad dash to invent caramel-blue paint begin! Here's how the survey breaks it down.
Of course, you don't see much colour with your eyes closed and the lights off, but the colour of your walls and décor affects how you sleep before you close your eyes, the survey found.
On average, the survey respondents sleeping in a blue bedroom get seven hours and 52 minutes of sleep, the most in the survey, which was conducted by Travelodge, a budget-friendly hotel chain in the U.K. Builders, teachers and civil servants tend to choose blue most often for their bedrooms, according to the survey.
The study surmises that since blue have long been associated with feelings of calmness — water, blue sky etc. — the colour helps us chill out before sleep.
In fact, blue also is said to help reduce blood pressure and heart rate, for more sound sleep.
“This is an amazing result, as there are specialized receptors called ganglion cells in the retina part of our eyes, which are most sensitive to the colour blue," says Chris Idzikowski, a sleep expert at the Edinburgh Sleep Centre, in a press release about the study. "These receptors feed information into an area deep in our brain that controls 24-hour rhythms, and affects how we perform and feel during the day. That interaction between light, sleep and wakefulness is supremely important.”
An amazing 58 per cent of Brits in the survey who sleep in blue rooms say they regularly wake up feeling happy. Cheerio! Certain shades of yellow come in second in promoting the best night's sleep: seven hours and 40 minutes on average per night. Warm yellow relaxes the body by stimulating the nervous system and calming the nerves.
Green also creates a calm and soothing vibe, which is why it appears to be the third best colour for getting sleep. People with green rooms get an average of seven hours and 30 minutes of sleep per night, and 22 per cent of those surveyed say they wake up "feeling upbeat and positive."
Modern Bedroom Home Staging New jersey, Home Stager, Grey, Silver, Real Estate Home Staging.
The survey suggests that a soothing silver bedroom mimics moonlight, which cues the brain to know that it's night time and time for sleep. People with silver bedrooms get an average of seven hours and 33 minutes of sleep, while 21 per cent surveyed say they are more motivated to exercise in their bedroom.
Orange, surprisingly, is close behind, with people getting an average of seven hours and 28 minutes of sleep. The warm colour also creates a "stable and reassuring atmosphere and can even help digestion too — especially if you have eaten a large or late-evening meal," according to the survey. The colour has also been found to relax muscles, so you fall asleep more quickly.
Though similar to silver, grey, an incredibly popular house paint colour, didn't perform well in the study; people in grey rooms get an average of only six hours and 12 minutes of sleep per night. It's thought that brown and grey can be "dreary and depressing, especially in the bedroom, and make occupants feel emotionally isolated and uncomfortable — resulting in a restless sleep," the study says.
What's more, the survey found that Brits with grey rooms spend the most time shopping online in bed. Those with a brown, cream or white bedroom are most likely workaholics who take their work to bed with them at least three times per week. Shop workers are most likely to have these colours in their bedrooms.
Purple bedrooms performed the worst for sleep. On average, people in purple bedrooms get five hours and 56 minutes per night.
While elegant and artistic, the colour is thought to be overly mentally stimulating. Coupled with a busy day, purple walls can make it difficult to turn off a racing mind and switch into sleep mode. (I'm guessing the colour has a different effect on chipper dinosaurs named Barney.)
Most interesting, to me anyway, is that the study found that couples in bedrooms with a caramel décor scheme have s*x, on average, three times per week. Unfortunately, the study doesn't offer any possible reasons. Is the colour tricking people into thinking about Milky Way candy bars and chocolate, making them more excited? Or is that just the case in my house?
Not much magic apparently happens in red bedrooms, where couples make love once a week on average. Maybe Roxanne should have put on a caramel-coloured light?

The bedroom is the ideal place to create an ambiance unique to each individual. Through its scents, its decoration, its lighting, the bedroom reflects the character and state-of-mind of its occupants.

We spend almost a third of our lives sleeping, which is why the bedroom is one of the most important spaces in any home. Quality bedding that promotes a good night's sleep is a must.

Hospitals can be an intimidating place, especially for children. The white sterile walls and big noisy machines can scare some kids and it’s possible they become uncomfortable and uncooperative. Of course a kind and caring health care professional can overcome these obstacles; but adding a little colour, fun and awe to the typically drab interiors can do a lot to help elevate one’s mindset. Kids are programmed to play, be imaginative and act silly. But when kids are hospitalized, it can be hard for them to channel their playful nature. Hospital rooms can feel sterile and don’t feel like “home.” Yet, imagine being a child and having your hospital room redecorated with your favorite theme or character.

NURSERY, DAYCARE CENTRES, KINGDERGATTEN AND PRE SCHOOL INTERIORS IMPACT MORE PUPILS' ATTENDANCE MOTIVATION AND ACADEMIC FUNCTIONALITY.

A positive attitude towards institution infrastructure quality facilitates pupils’ performance and motivation. However, this has been increasingly questioned in recent years. The objective of interiors infrastructure development throughout primary education should be to increase school attendance motivation and improve academic functionality of pupils.

A favourable atmosphere in nursery schools is created not only with the help of teachers, tutors and staff, but also due to interior design, beautiful furniture and variety of equipment. As children spend almost all day in preschool, nursery school furniture should serve different purposes and therefore, should be very diverse.

Every child should have his own place for keeping his storage and cloths. There is a huge choice of various lockers and coat racks for kids, they are convenient and colourful. You should place a bench or chairs near the lockers, sitting on which children can take off shoes. You may arrange shelves and racks for storage kids’ pictures and crafts near the lockers.

Demonstration of creative works is a very important part of kids education and at the same time gives their parents a lot of fun.

Dining tables and feeding tables for babies are serving not only for eating but also for learning how to behave during the meal, so the furniture for dining room should be both convenient and aesthetic. The dining tables can be rectangular, round, and oval more important that the children are not closely sitting there. The chairs in preschool are usually made of wood and plastic with or without side frames, depending on kids’ age. Any nursery and day-care centres should be equipped with baby cribs. They should be durable and comfortable, easy to clean and meet safety regulations. Drop-gate cribs are convenient and allow caregiver reach the baby easily. You should place storage cabinets and racks for kids’ clothes near the cribs.

Kids’ washrooms should be equipped with basins and toilets of appropriate size. Cubicle system with low height doors should be added with safety features such as anti-trap hinges and latches. For the babies potty chairs should be provided.

Arrange cabinets or lockers for towels in the washroom and sign them with names or different colourful pictures in order a child can distinguish his locker.

Playroom is the most favourable room in nursery. in the playroom there should be variety of furniture and learning units as the children get their first experience there. All kinds of storage units allow to keep mats and games in order. You may put books into book stands and shelves at the toddler’s height. Kids play furniture for nursery schools such as kitchen island, hairdresser and vendor equipment, changing table for dolls, furniture for a little café or hospital, occupies a special place, it is also called the furniture for subject-role-playing games.

Kids’ furniture is mostly made of particle board, MDF or laminated particle board. These materials have a level of formaldehyde emission close to zero and are usually coated with paint, enamel or varnish of high quality. Such furniture is safe and allows to make regular wet cleaning.

When selecting a preschool for your baby make sure that there is safe convenient and various furniture in it.

MISTAKES DONE WHILE DECORATING CANTEEN, EATERY AND RESTAURANT.

A restaurant is able to offer a wide range of appeal to the senses. The quality of your food appealing to your customer's sense of taste, the delightful smells wafting from the kitchen appealing to your customers sense of smell. But many restaurants fail on appealing to the primary senses, when the customer first enters and looks around to see what kind of place it is. Don't underestimate the design and decor of your establishment; it sticks in the patron's minds a lot longer than you'd think!

Mistake 1: Furnishings that look cheap and tacky.

Within the holy triad of bar, booth and table, it's the tables that are the most vulnerable to looking tacky. Unless you're running a small cafe or deli, the square table on a single pole with four shabby chairs around it just isn't the inviting place to spend time. You don't have to go overboard on the expense; there are bargain table and seating sets that look great. Booths, however, are the best, inviting your guests to relax at their leisure, where they'll be inspired to stay and order desert or a cappuccino.

The best bet is to offer variety in seating. A bar for the business people dashing in for a quick breakfast, tables for the large families with an entourage of children, and booths for the leisure set and intimate couples and friends. Actually sit down in each seating piece, stay seated for a few minutes, and notice how comfortable or not it is. Perhaps your hard chairs are why guests aren't staying beyond the main course?

Lastly, rips and tears in the fabric need to be repaired or the piece needs to be replaced. Don't grumble at the cost of replacing a booth seat; be glad instead. Restaurants that go out of business never live long enough to see their chairs wear out. Duct-tape repairs are inappropriate everywhere but truck stops in the Southern states.

Mistake 2: Bad light.

I've been in restaurants where for all I could tell it used to be a funeral home. Windows, looking out at a hopefully gorgeous view, do wonders to make your environment more inviting. Besides natural light, you will need to think about lighting fixtures. Here, the ideal is bright enough to read by - not just for menus, but for today's single person bringing in a book, newspaper, or paperwork from school and office. But also not too harsh; the lighting should be soft enough to hide blemishes in the face of your sweetheart.

Remember that at some point, the lamp, being the brightest object in the room, will snag the gaze of your patron while they're waiting on their eggs benedict. Try to make sure the lamp fixture is attractive and clean. It seems funny, but even the cleanest restaurants I've seen forget this detail. Nothing like looking up to catch an eyeful of a dusty lampshade with a spiderweb and a few dead moths right over your table.

Mistake 3: Bad carpeting.

Who knows what gets into restaurant owners' heads when it comes time to pick out a carpet design? You see this all the time; an otherwise sensibly decorated establishment whose floor covering sports a pattern not seen since Haight-Ashbury in the late 60s. It is a floor, not a bargain-rack muu-muu. Tiling and linoleum doesn't suffer from this problem like carpeting does. Pick a carpet design that is quiet and muted, while going along with the rest of your business' motif.

Mistake 4: No interior divisions in the seating section.

Even one private room for parties will give you a boost in income, as everybody from family reunions to social clubs and business teams will appreciate having an exclusive area to book for an occasion. Lacking that, even a partition or two or planter boxes work to divide the seating space, helping to drown out the noise and give your guests some other visual stimulation than another chewing person gazing back at them.

Today's restaurant scene no longer has to deal with smoking/ no-smoking sections, as the smokers have now been either ordered outside by law or been badgered out into the fresh air by the disapproving cries of the clean-lunged. But what about other annoyances? The persistent cell phone addict, the crying babies, the cracking baritones, the giddy laughter, and the noisy laptop? You don't have to segregate the space into established zones, but breaking the space up with a few dividers gives guests a chance to pick their own section - even if it isn't officially so.

Mistake 5: The muzak.

Unless it's a bar, music is to be only background noise that fills in the spaces between conversation. It should neither be too loud nor too quiet. Subliminal effect is the key here. It should be present, but almost never noticed. The exception is if you're going for authentic ethnic atmosphere, in which case music of the same nationality as your menu will be part of the sensory canvas. In that case, turn the speaker up one, and only one, unit. With apologies to Spinal Tap, your speakers should most definitely not go to eleven.

Mistake 6: Too cold!

Of course, it's sweltering in the kitchen, and your waitstaff is generating a lot of heat bustling around the tables. But people never like to keep their coat on for dinner. Living-room temperature is best for a restaurant seating section.

Mistake 7: Mis-match decor.

We've all had the experience of entering a restaurant housed in a building that's been through several owners. The ghosts of restaurants past is showing in the odd nooks and crannies. Chinese buffets that used to be IHOPs, waffle houses moving in where a Mexican restaurant moved out, or a liquor store that's been converted into a sidewalk cafe. We all understand that real estate is expensive enough, without quibbling over the fact that the perfect spot to be the future home of your French restaurant just happens to be a knock-out replica of a Turkish mosque.

But do, by all means, strive to remove every trace of the building's former past before you lay on the furnishings for its present incarnation. Ferns and potted palms are not native to a Canadian environment, the charming Bonsai trees in the planter boxes just won't make it in your South American decorating scheme, and that glorious Mediterranean mural is just going to have to be painted over if your steak house is to be taken seriously. A restaurant that looks like you just flew in and set it up gives patrons the chilling feeling that you might be ready to fly out again just after the next Health Department inspection.

Designing a boy’s room is not a task for the faint of heart! It takes plenty of haggling, some smart compromises and a few creative ideas to reach a compromise that is agreeable to both the adults and the kids. Yet there are a few simple ways in which you can design and decorate a boy’s bedroom without going overboard on the budget. Paint not only enables you to alter the look of a room almost instantly, it does so in a cost-effective manner. As the popular adage goes, when in doubt, simply paint it. But a beautiful color palette is not just about designing on a budget. It brings a child’s room to life while giving you the flexibility to change between styles and color schemes without too much hassle. While the theme of a boy’s room obviously determines the paint choices you make, you can always add an element of surprise with a splash of an exotic shade. These boy’s room paint ideas show you how to get the job done with flair…

using paint to decorate the kids’ room has plenty of advantages that go beyond the obvious. While the fabulous array of colors and the many hues help in creating a lovely, vibrant setting, the true charm of paint is showcased when you create a change in color scheme. While keeping the walls white and adding colorful decor is attractive, it will not be too long before your kids grow out of the current color phase! Instead, use paint to usher in the color of the season, and you can switch over to a different shade at any time in the future with little fuss.

STYLISH FLOORS; Decorating With Area Rugs.

For a room that lacks excitement, adding a rug might be the perfect answer. While that alone is a good enough reason to decorate with a rug, there are others. You might even say it completes a room by tying all the different pieces together visually. A rug can anchor a room, define it, and also add warmth and help layer a room's decor. How many ways can you best use a rug? There are several different but we will start with ten of them:
1. Use a rug to define or separate areas, such as seating or dining areas, and foyers. This is especially useful in studio apartments, or larger rooms that need definition.
2. If you use more than one rug in a room, make sure they are not the same size. Same sized rugs can cut your room in half visually.
3. When using more than one rug, it's better when the rugs complement each other in style. If not, you could end up with a jarring or unpleasant effect. Too many "warring" patterns in a room will do away with any sense of harmony.
4. Use a favourite rug as the basis of the colour scheme in a room. On the other hand, if you add it after you have your furniture in place, you can use the rug to accent or tie in your existing colours.
5. Use a rug to visually quieten a room or turn up the volume as needed. If your upholstery or wallpaper has an ornate pattern, choose a rug that is more subtle. When walls and upholstery are fairly subdued, you can try a busier pattern to add more interest to the room. Hand tufted or Hand Knotted?
6. Use a rug as the focal point of your room, as rugs can make a huge impact. To do that you can create contrast by painting your walls a hue that echoes one of your rug's accent colours.
7. Use a rug as a wall hanging for another way to create a focal point.
Selecting Rug Fibers
8. Don't assume that a rug has to be a rectangle. Let the way you group your furniture dictate the shape of your rug. Try figuring out what shape would look best, and then go with a square, round or oval shape if that seems like the better option than a rectangular one.
9. When you buy a room size rug, subtract 3 feet from the length and width of the room. Leaving the floor bare at the edges makes it look a little larger. Also, when laying a rug under your dining table, leave at least 24" of rug from the edge of the table out on all sides. This enables the back legs of the chairs to stay on the rug, even when pulled out to let someone sit. Runners should be 4 inches narrower than your hallway and 18 to 24 inches shorter. Make sure they are wide enough to accommodate both feet on the rug when you walk.
10. Change out rugs and pillows to update a room for changing seasons, or as a way to introduce new colour trends.

Bonus Tip: Always use a liner to keep your rug from slipping or creeping. The rug liner should be appropriate for your floor type, and also be the right size to fully keep the rug from slide.
