BUILDING COLLAPSE😔😔
It's sad 2c this happening, but more sadden knowing that a higher percentage of these collapses could have been avoided if not for on d part of the CONTRACTOR(Architects,Builders&Engineers) and that of d CLIENTS especially…
A potential building that will collapse can easily be identified from d onset.. when I say onset I mean from d the of such building in d mind of d client, to the (structural design especially) of the building and last but not d least to the physical of such building..
A building has failed from d of it in d mind of d client when all d client thinks about is how to build a multi-storey building with so many units of apartment, without considering d need of engaging in d design n construction of it, but solely depend on 'what he/she thinks he/she knows' n d engagement of in order to save building cost..
Also, a building has failed from the when you as an Engineer choose to believe that the structural design used in building Mr. A's 2-Storey building in Abuja can also be used in building Mr. B's 2-Storey building in Lagos, hence ignoring all basic analysis such as LOAD BEARING CAPACITY of d soil that was supposed to be carried out in producing such design and going ahead to dish out same design for both structures..
Last but not d least, a building has failed from it's physical on site when you as an Engineer choose not to adhere to the WORKING DRAWINGS(architectural&structural designs) of such building, instead choose to rely on your own knowledge/experience.. Also when an Engineer choose to use substandard materials, poor quality control, engagement of half baked workmen, poor supervision and many other lapses..
In conclusion let's prevent further collapse of buildings today as /PROSPECTIVE CLIENTS by engaging the right professionals for your building projects, also as (Architects, Builders & Engineers) by ensuring you adhere to design/building standards in every aspect of your job and avoid cutting conners for your own interest nd gain at d expense of d quality of your jobs..
Like our slogan goes..
2all who lost their lives in these recent building collapses
