7 things you must consider when choosing interior paint colours.
1. Start with colours you love: you don't want to have your space painted with a colour you don't love.
2. Find a source of paint colour inspiration: You can source this or check our Instagram page or other sites like Pinterest.
3. Determine the type of mood you want the space to convey: The colours you have on the walls of your room determine the mood in that space. You should decide if you want warm colours that evoke emotions of comfort and warmth, cool colors or muted colours, or attention-grabbing colours.
4. Keep a tab on colours that are in the room already: You want to take note of the colors of upholstery you have installed in the room already if you do. As much as you want to spice things up, you don't want the colours to be contrasting.
5. Lighting and room location: The source of natural light or artificial lighting that you have exposed to the room over a day also has to be considered. Bright colours are known to throw light in dark corners and would be appropriate for spaces with poor light exposure.
6. Nature of wall surface: The nature of the material that the paint is to be applied on affects the output. This should determine not only the colours but also the type of paint used. For example, Satin finishes are best applied on screened walls.
7. Type of paint finish used: The type of paint finish used should also be considered. Some Emulsion, Matt, Texcoat, Flex, or Satin finishes often do well in the interior of residential spaces than gloss finishes and help to best express the colours you've chosen . However, gloss finishes would do well mostly in commercial spaces.
