The banquet was a huge success. Everything was perfect, the food, the service. Guests left smiling.

But before the applause, someone had to re-set 60 chairs. Twice. Because the client changed their mind. Again.

No one clapped for them. But without them, there’s no event. That’s the nature of invisible labour in hospitality — unnoticed, uncelebrated, but essential.

At Guava Hospitality, we believe profit begins with people and that means seeing the work no one talks about.

Hospitality isn’t just a job.
It’s how you show up—early, present, patient.
It’s how you provide—through quiet acts of care and consistency.
It’s how you lead—by making others feel safe, seen, and welcome.

Today, we raise a toast to the dads who serve at home, at work, and in the world.

Happy Father's Day!

The hospitality industry is fast paced; demanding both physical and mental round the clock operations , often with little or no time for adequate rest and relaxation. The demanding nature of hospitality work, including long hours, irregular shifts and pressure to meet customer needs, significantly contributes to burnout, emotional exhaustion and lower productivity.

According to Hospitality Employees Mental Health Review by International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences (Vol 14, Issue 7, 2024), “Employees working in the hospitality industry are at greater risk for depression, substance abuse, and anxiety than the general population. As part of the job, you have to deal with risks like unpredictable hours, working in a fast-paced environment, and dealing with rude customers”.

To address these challenges, it is imperative hospitality companies begin to prioritize employee well-being by implementing programs that create less stressful places of work and supportive environment and conditions for mental health. In this issue of HI, Hospitality Consultant and Integrative Health Coach, Lola Udabor, draws from personal experience and shares her thoughts on mental health and wellbeing in the hospitality industry.
