Maurice van Bakel is an Amsterdam-based architect and product designer. He holds a Master’s degree in Architecture and Urban Planning from the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture and a Master’s in Interior Architecture and Furniture Design from the Maast
richt Academy of Arts. Before founding his own design studio in Amsterdam in 1998, he spent ten years working for renowned architectural firms such as Wiel Arets Architects and Bert Dirrix & Rein van Wylick Architects. His work is defined by a deep engagement with materiality, spatial research, and meticulous detailing. Together with his team, he crosses disciplinary boundaries—integrating architecture, interior, product, and furniture design—while working on a diverse range of projects for both private and public clients. At the heart of his approach lies a design methodology that prioritizes clarity of function and a strong identity, always placing the user’s experience at the center.
