Specimen Tree Landscapes

Specimen Tree Landscapes We’re best known for relocating mature trees with specialised equipment made for transplanting trees damage free.

As landscape arborists, we plant, transplant, relocate and transport trees in Auckland, New Zealand and beyond everyday of the week.

We planted this olive about three years ago.

It settled in beautifully, but everyone eventually came to the same conclusion.

It was far too fabulous for where it was.

Today, with a help from Crane and Cartage, it was lifted over the corner of the house and given a position more fitting of a tree with this much character.

Last week in Albany. 3rd and final wide load of the morning.

Wrapped up like a giant leafy kebab and ready for the trip across town. 🌳

Jeff, Chris and Torrey alongside another magnificent pōhutukawa before its journey across the old vineyard to the crater rim green belt. 🌳

A small crew of gnarly humans rescuing equally gnarly trees.

We’re not hired for our good looks. Obviously.
We get called in for the skills, precision, logistics, and big dig energy.

Not tree fellers.
Not a tree nursery.

Full-time tree transplanters, transporters, and planters of magnificent trees.

Does practice make perfect?

Hmmm.
Debatable. But after moving trees daily, calmly transporting a giant pōhutukawa across a paddock becomes a piece of p**s.

Last week in Albany, we loaded three mature pōhutukawa from this future housing development.

This was No. 2, getting its transport net fitted before an early-morning journey across Auckland. A wide load, pilot vehicles, and a 5am start.

More rescues coming soon.

Nearly a decade into this work and moments like this still stop us in our tracks. 🌳

Watching a 6 tonne pōhutukawa lift from the earth never loses its magic. The weight, precision, teamwork, and trust involved still feels awe inspiring every single time.

Close to 1000 tree transplants later with Specimen Tree Landscapes alone — not even including our earlier years as The Specimen Tree Company.

We feel incredibly lucky to do this work and grateful to everyone who continues choosing preservation over removal.

Big trees deserve big effort.

The first of three mature pōhutukawa we loaded last week, beginning its journey to a new home across Auckland.

It’s always rewarding seeing trees like this get a second chance rather than a date with the chipper.

More rescues are underway this week. Stay tuned. 🌳

One year ago at the former Villa Maria Vineyard, Māngere. 🌳

40 massive pōhutukawa rescued, relocated, and given a second chance instead of the chipper.

Big dig energy was everywhere on this job and we loved every minute of it.

Thanks to G Mundy for the lift across site.
Let’s save more trees.

The final two trees have officially been shifted.

One nīkau and one pūriri, both lifted, transported across site, and carefully placed into their new homes selected by the landscape designer.

This Karaka North rescue project took four days all up — two days of prep work, one big relocation day for lifting and backfilling, then a final day to containerise the nursery trees and tidy the site. Plenty of planning, plenty of teamwork, and plenty of laughs along the way.

Eight rescued trees. New chapter underway.

30/05/2026

We take big loads with the best of them. 🌳

A pair of oversized VIPs travelling across the former Villa Maria Vineyard with the legends at Crane & Cartage while the rest of us stood around admiring the sheer scale of it all.

Two magnificent pōhutukawa making their escorted journey to the crater rim green belt as part of the 40-tree rescue project.

Big trees.
Big Loads.
Big dig energy.
