Innovation in Christchurch by Smith and Crane Construction .... lifting this dwelling, breaking out the concrete pad and replacing. HUGE and the first of it's type in Canterbury.

As the rebuild starts to take momentum there are new innovative solutions being developed to the issues we face around housing repairs and rebuilds. In this case here this house had light damage to the structure but had a broken concrete pad which needed to be replaced.

Instead of demolition of the house the house is raised off its foundations, the old foundation de-constructed and a new one poured with the house then lowered, repaired and then the family can move back in. This is a surreal process and this house is from the information we have the first one of this type of repair done in Canterbury.

The total weight of this house is approx 15 - 20 tonne.
