If you could wave a magic wand and change one thing about your house…
Warmer in winter?
More natural light?
Better layout?
Better indoor-outdoor flow?

Tell me in the comments—I’m always curious what people struggle with most.

Days like these remind us what a home is really meant to do.

It’s not just about looking beautiful on a sunny day.

A well-designed home keeps you warm, dry, comfortable and quiet when the weather outside is doing its worst.

That’s what building science is all about—creating homes that perform every day of the year, not just when conditions are perfect.

Last weekend we opened the doors to this home once again.

Every open home reminds me why we do this.

People don’t usually walk in talking about airtightness or thermal bridges. They simply say things like “It feels nice in here.”

That’s exactly the point.

Good building science isn’t about technology for technology’s sake. It’s about creating homes that feel comfortable, healthy and effortless to live in every day. Beautiful architecture and healthy buildings should go hand in hand.

Thank you to everyone who came through and asked thoughtful questions. Seeing people’s curiosity grow is one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.

What would you like to know about Passive House? I’d love to answer it in a future post.

Growing up in Germany, comfortable and energy-efficient homes were normal.

When I moved to New Zealand, I loved the climate and lifestyle, but I was surprised by how many people lived in cold and damp homes.

That’s what led me to Passive House design.

Not because it’s a trend.

Because everyone deserves a healthy home.

This weekend we’re opening one of our projects so you can experience it yourself.

When people hear “building science” they often think about insulation, windows or energy efficiency.

But one of the biggest contributors to comfort is something we rarely think about: fresh air.

A well-designed ventilation system helps provide a constant supply of fresh, filtered air while managing moisture and maintaining comfort throughout the year.

For me, good architecture is about creating spaces that feel good to be in.

Warm.
Fresh.
Comfortable.

The kind of home where you walk through the door and instantly feel at ease.

What makes a home feel comfortable to you?

Ever thought about what paint leaves behind in the air we breathe?

When we choose materials for a project, we think beyond how they look.
Paint is one of those finishes we interact with every single day — on our walls, ceilings and around our families.

That’s why we love using low-VOC paints where possible.

VOC stands for “volatile organic compounds” — chemicals that can be released into the air from some paints and finishes. Choosing lower-VOC products can help reduce indoor air pollution, strong paint smells and unnecessary chemical exposure.

A small decision that can make a meaningful difference to how a home feels.

Because healthy homes aren’t just about insulation or energy efficiency — they’re also about the materials we surround ourselves with every day.

Grateful to Dulux for supporting this project and Fineline painters for some excellent work.
