Kaitangata Post Office Current owners/care takers of the old post office. For updates on what we are up to and future plans

We recently moved to Kaitangata and have our hearts set on slowly restoring the old post office and have a dream to transform the bottom of the building into a tea room/cafe while maintaining the integrity and historic features of the building.

We ended up getting a little side tracked today, we purchased these antique panels about 4 years ago not knowing exactly what we were going to do with them and after rediscovering them today we realized they would be a good fit for a rather plain square archway that divides the lounge and kitchen. Normally we would never paint wood but since these are not original to the building we thought why not.

On to our next big project at the post office. The upstairs hallway, this has already had a good amount of work done, all the door frames have been stripped, floors and skirting boards. The wall moulding was mix matched and a lot of it taken from downstairs so this was removed and put back down the bottom. The old wall paper was removed as it was damaged.

Jobs to do will be stripping one door and one window frame/skirting board. We will need to strip half the stairs going down to the bottom. The ceiling will need to be patched and scraped/sanded and primed/painted gold, walls painted white, all the wood sanded and waxed.

Lounge when we first got the keys and today.
