Let’s bust a couple of garden myths!

Myth 1: “Fruit trees can’t grow well in containers .”
Fruit trees thrive in EverGrow Bags. The secret is healthy roots and good drainage.

Myth 2: “Containers dry out too fast in winter.”
Cool soil holds moisture longer, especially in fabric bags that drain properly.

Evergrow Bags are helping NZ growers break these myths every day: healthier roots, easier movement, and thriving fruit trees (or any other plant!) in any space!

More people are creating small‑space orchards, growing fruit on balconies and patios, and choosing small‑space setups that make the most of limited room.

Climate‑smart gardening is also on the rise. With wetter winters and hotter summers, growers want flexibility, and movable containers are becoming a must-have. Bags with handles make it easy to shift trees into the sun, into shelter, or into better-draining areas as the weather changes.

And leading the way here in Aotearoa... EverGrow Bags, designed by Kiwis for NZ conditions and loved by NZ gardeners!

EverGrow bags are a favourite!

Why? Because they’re built for NZ growers. The sizing, drainage, fabric density, and handles are all designed around how Kiwis actually grow fruit trees.

If you’re following any of these trends, small‑space growing, climate‑smart gardening, or container orchards, above or below ground.... EverGrow Bags are the perfect fit.

As we head into the last week of May, temperatures across Aotearoa are dropping, and soil moisture is increasing, making it the perfect time for your trees to settle into dormancy.

Here are your NZ late‑autumn must‑dos:
- Check soil moisture,
- Remove any diseased leaves
- Shift potted trees to catch the lower winter sun
- Light tidy‑up pruning, remove crossing or damaged branches

If your trees are in above‑ground EverGrow Bags, now’s the time to move them into their winter position. The handles make it easy, and giving your tree a sunnier spot now sets it up for a stronger spring flush.

Bag size and pruning are your two biggest tools for controlling the final size of your tree. Different species have different levels of vigour, and growth is influenced by climate, soil, feeding, and care.

A below‑ground bag can support a leaf canopy roughly 10× the size of the bag because the roots can access the surrounding soil and moisture.

Above‑ground bags naturally restrict growth more because the roots stay contained and can’t spread outward. They also warm up and dry out faster, meaning they need more regular care.

For long‑term above‑ground growing, we recommend choosing a bag one size larger. This allows the roots more room, holds moisture for longer, and reduces stress during hot or dry periods.

If you’re unsure which size to choose, check the recommended sizes on our website!

Autumn in Aotearoa brings its own kind of magic, those warm golds and reds aren’t just beautiful, they’re your tree’s way of preparing for winter dormancy.

As the leaves change, it’s the perfect moment to prune, repot, or shift your trees into better positions for the colder months ahead.

Evergrow Bags make this easy. The sturdy handles mean you can move your trees to sunnier winter spots, helping them stay healthy, strong, and ready for spring.

Most people think planting season is over… but autumn is actually prime time for fruit trees in Aotearoa.

Cooler temps with warm soil allow less stress, stronger root establishment, and better spring growth. If you’re planting citrus, think feijoa, or dwarf stone fruit, now is the moment.

Planting in a breathable EverGrow Bag helps roots settle faster and avoid transplant shock. Also great for long-term growth above or below ground

If your tree is yellowing, stunted, or dropping leaves… the problem might be hiding below the soil and not related to the season!

Rootbound trees spiral, choke themselves, and struggle to take up nutrients.
It’s one of the most common issues in NZ home gardens, especially with citrus.

Evergrdow air-prunes roots naturally, stopping the spiral and encouraging a strong, fibrous root system.

This time of year in NZ, doing less is often the right move.

Plants aren’t asking for more water, more feeding, or more attention. In fact, overworking your garden now can do more harm than good.

Cooler temps and slower growth mean plants need:
• Less interference
• Less watering
• More stability

Sometimes the best thing you can do is step back and let things settle!
