Use good container mix above ground, or soil and compost below ground.
Fill halfway, firm the soil, prune roots if needed, then top up. Leave a small gap, add bark or stone, and make sure drainage is spot‑on.

Stake in windy spots and support heavy branches.

So, what size should you choose?

Bag size and pruning are your main controls for the tree’s final size.
Below ground, a bag supports a canopy roughly 10× its size.

Above ground, growth is more restricted, so go one size larger to hold moisture longer and give roots more room.

Size Guide
10L — Small ornamentals, bulbs, flowers, herbs
20L — Leafy trees, small to medium fruit trees
30L — Fruit trees, berries, ornamentals, bulbs
40L — Large fruit trees, nuts, ornamentals, bulbs
80L — Big trees, fruits, vegetables; holds more moisture and supports thicker trunks
