What better way to fill a space beside a stair than a bar!
This renovation to a holiday house in Kaiteriteri is designed to a high level of detail inside and out. The dark timber veneer creates a moody warm aesthetic which works well in any bar. We enjoyed working with Bays Joinery on this job.

I designed this house 8 years ago. I called it the 'No Gib House' as we did not use any plasterboard at all. The entire interior is lined with NZ pine ply and LVL beams. Luckily the owner worked for Nelson Pine Industries. The exterior is clad in selectively logged NZ Red Beech. The beams are set out to a 1200mm grid pattern throughout the house. The timber beams in the interior create interest and warmth.

Karsten Architecture is enjoying giving back to the community by designing the latest Helicopter House, a project that raises funds for the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter, a vital community service. The rescue helicopter requires significant funds to operate and provides an amazing life-saving service to the top of the south community. The house needs to be designed to be easily transported, to be de-constructed and then re-assembled on the new site. It will be built in the Mitre 10 carpark later this year and will go to auction in the New Year.
