Lots of research into the style and layout of the scheme to ensure we accurately replicate the original paint as was worn during WWII.

Things starting to come together. Bit of paint, plumbing, landing gear and the beautiful Merlin arrives.

The MkV has the early single speed single stage Merlin with the float carb.

There's quite a lot of complicated pieces in a Spitfire. That beautiful shape with all those curves does throw up some challenges.

Chapter 2.

The restored fuselage along with a container load of parts arrived at Ardmore in 2006 and work swiftly commenced.

The first job was to clean and prep the inside of the fuse ready for paint.

One thing you soon notice about the Spitfire is how long the fuselage is, especially when it is sharing floor space with a Curtiss Tomahawk IIB.

The resurrection of Spitfire MkV, BL628.

Chapter 1.

The fantastic remains of this combat veteran Spitfire were rescued by Peter Croser and Mike Aitchison, both from Australia. In the early 2000's work was started by Kevin Arditto and his team in Melbourne, Victoria.

Initially Avspecs were engaged by Mike and Peter to help move the project ahead, by completing the wing rebuild. Work began at Ardmore but the guys soon decided to sell this super rare project.
Thanks largely to Simon Brown, Avspecs were awarded the contract to complete the full aircraft restoration for its new Australian owner.

DH Mosquito NZ2308 up for its first photo flight following restoration at Ardmore in New Zealand back in March 2024, an amazing machine looking fantastic in its silver colour scheme.
Steve Hinton is in the left seat, in the right Warren Denholm and well done to Avspecs, Mosquito Restorations, and to all of those who worked on this timeless machine, Glyn would be so proud!

It's always an exciting time when the Mosquito fuselage halves are complete and can be removed from the molds. Great work by the team at MAR. TE881 making good progress.
