A really important part of being an artist is connecting with other artists and learning from people who have dedicated their careers to master the art of painting or printmaking. I’ve attended a few of .0 ‘s workshops and not only is he a genuinely kind person, I’ve seen him help artists (like myself) push through creative boundaries. Seeing his solo exhibition at gallery last night was wonderful.

I brought my daughter and her flatmate along to their first gallery exhibition opening and they loved it.

I highly recommend going to see this exhibition at Sanderson Contemporary Art in Newmarket, Auckland.

I’m on a roadie today to visit gallery where I’ll be having my solo exhibition this coming November. Opening is on Saturday, November 28, 2026 at 11am.

I’m going to sit in the Margot Philips gallery and plan some of my pieces, do a few sketches and get a visual on how my artwork will feel in there.

Locally in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand a tragedy unfolded after a massive rainstorm on January 22, 2026 caused a landslide on Mauao that took the lives of six people who were camping at the base of this incredibly beautiful maunga (mountain).

I looked through my camera roll and in the past 6 years of being back in New Zealand, I have over 4,000 photos from here. I’ve hiked up and around it over a hundred times as it was my go-to place to rejuvenate and enjoy the physical exercise and also the stillness of nature. I’ve even camped there as it’s truly a breathtaking place. Culturally, Mauao is significantly important to Māori and me and those around me have heavy hearts as we carry the loss of these loved ones—as well as the grandma and grandson who were also caught in a slip in their Welcome Bay home.

This painting of the view looking down onto Mount Main Beach from partway up Mauao is one of my favourite spots. You’re up far enough to have left the bustle below but the track seems to connect directly with the beach.

Once some healing has taken place, I hope to return here and I’m planning to paint this scene again en plein air. I want to spend a few hours breathing in the ocean breeze and being incredibly thankful for each moment of each day.

Everything can change in an instant, this tragedy has taught me that.

First painting of 2026 is on the easel. I’ve finished the underpainting and now I’ll stare at it for a while and figure out what I’ll do next. Painting is very much like problem solving.

What fun! Voilà Art & Atelier was lit up today with fun and laughter. Look at the blind continuous portraits the ladies created today. So what if mouths were forgotten or someone gets a gigantic chin!

Just A Minute | Walking Chronicles: Day 12 New Years Eve Edition. What does your landscape look like on the last day of 2025? Mine is a tumultuous sea which mirrors the year it’s been for me. I’m thankful for all the lessons learned and the stamina to get through it. I’m looking forward to the new year and I’ll will take with me the experiences of past and add those to the tapestry on canvas as I move forward. Happy New Years!!

Today’s highlight was doing this 30 minute figure drawing of Charlotte at .0’s life drawing workshop.

After a few one and two minute sketches, we settled into longer sketches and finishing with a couple 30-minute portraits.

I love these sessions where you need to instinctively make marks and really observe the forms and shapes. Charlotte was a brilliant model and Damien is an excellent teacher.

I managed to drag my son out of bed to see the bioluminescence on Pukehina Beach. This is just an iPhone handheld long exposure, but it does capture the atmosphere. Can you see his blurred figure walking towards me?
