New sink area looking good - Jon finished plastering the wall this morning, I built this perch for the cabinets to sit on which doubles as a more solid backing for the flush kick boards that will be going in, we built the cabinets, unpacked the integrated dishwasher and installed the benchtop. Still need to cut the hole for the sink, build the on bench cabinet, finish assembling the pull out baskets and add tile and doors but it’s looking like a kitchen!

When your new plumbing looks this good, you post it. did an incredible job moving our plumbing around. What was an awkward mess of random pipes in a cabinet instead of in a wall, gib left off, A PowerPoint inside the wall sideways on the framing and the home of Wellington mouse population, moved across the room and turned into this exquisitely simple and beautiful plumbing that fits so perfectly in the wall that we were able to immediately gib. Perfection.

Window be gone. I’m sure thinks we’re nuts given we keep getting him to remove windows when most people want more windows but it’s gonna be worth it. The kitchen felt so much taller as soon as that window disappeared and we have windows on two other walls of the living/kitchen space so we didn’t lose light.

Look at that beautiful work. Restoring the office wall after ripping down the conservatory. Our builder added these facings and scribers around the ranchslider after adding all new weatherboards and it just looks so good.

None of our windows have any trim but we’re definitely going to have him trim out our windows and box or corners this way. It really just elevated the house exterior so much!

Progress. The cabinet doors and handles have been installed. We still need to add the baseboards, cornices and the gallery wall but it’s looking so much better!

We used wall cabinets instead of base cabinets to save space with modern profile doors. We used standard framing timber to create a platform for them to sit on and Specrite Kwila panels for the benchtop.

In progress. We still need to add the tiles surround and clean up the mantle but the Redway Opti-Myst electric fireplace has been installed and it’s gorgeous. The ‘flames’ are so real. Stay posted for the finished result as the tiles surround is an upcoming 90% project (the base boards around the hearth are another!)

Short: So not quite a before:after - more of an almost after, a before and a few during.

Long: we had out to replace our ranchslider with a proper front door and while the front entry is not yet finished, this was 80% of the work right here!
It’s such a nice big door and the guys did a fantastic job!! The detail in their work is brilliant!

From here we need to build a nice big porch with a roof or pergola, get rid of the laundry you can see peeking out the left side, add boxed corners, paint, add house numbers, a door knocker, exterior lights, maybe a courier box, plants and get some new spouting that looks nicer against the new entry and new roof. Oh and replace that window with a flat one.

Not a beautiful Insta pic but such a rewarding comparison. First pic is our brand new roof by Roof Wellington - nice dark .55 corrugated in ‘Grey Friars’ to match our garage. Second pic, our old super leaky patched up roof that Jon spent so much time in last winter replacing full buckets of dirty roof water.

So dry, so warm, snug little hat for our home.

So much more to be done to the house exterior!
