Two of my favorite garden workhorses, they both bring months of color with very little fuss. Here in Utah, they start blooming in spring and keep going well into fall if you deadhead them
Both are perennials, so they return every spring, often bigger and more beautiful than the year before. Even better, they readily self-seed, so each spring feels like getting free flowers! 🌱✨ I love spotting new little seedlings popping up around the garden.

🌹 The roses are coming! 🌹
Most of these beauties were just tiny plants when I tucked them into the garden last spring..See comments for the name of varieties

About a month ago, I was already seeing lilacs in full bloom around the Salt Lake area, while mine were still behind with just buds. Then the April frost hit and damaged many of the buds—same frost that affected a lot of the fruit trees this year. I thought I might lose most of the blooms, but I’m happy to see that some survived. About half of the lilac flowers were damaged, but the ones that made it are finally starting to bloom now 💜

Update on my Sarah Bernhardt peony 🌸 Still absolutely loaded with buds! I finally got it staked because those big beautiful blooms are going to be heavy soon. Can’t wait for the full show in the next couple of weeks!

My 11-year-old peony has about 100 buds, they will be heavy when they bloom, and I need to stake it soon!

Spring started with so much promise—flowers everywhere and tiny baby fruits on my peaches, apples, Asian pears, plums, and apricots. But the recent frost here in Utah took them all.
The warmer winter and early spring made everything bloom too soon, and the cold snap came at the wrong time. Looks like no fruits for us this year…
but I’m holding out hope for the grapes—they start later, so maybe they’ll still make it.

I was hoping they don't bloom yet but ..

Prepping my newly planted perennials for the coming cold snap ❄️🌱
Some are already blooming… and now they’re about to experience 27°F like 🥶
Me: “You got this!”
My plants: “We were not built for this kind of trauma…” 😂
Extra care, extra covering, and a whole lot of plant prayers 🙏🌸
Gardening = emotional damage but we keep going 💚

Spring is slowly unfolding 🌸✨
Some flowers are just beginning to bloom, while others are already showing off their full beauty. Each one, in its own time—reminding us that growth doesn’t have to be rushed.
Here’s to fresh starts, gentle progress, and the quiet beauty of becoming. 🌷💛
