Snake plants almost never die from neglect.
They die from kindness.

Most owners see dry soil and assume the plant is thirsty. But a snake plant is a desert succulent — it stores water in its leaves, not just its roots. When you water from the top, only the upper soil becomes wet. The roots stay shallow and the base stays damp, which is exactly where rot begins.

Bottom watering flips that pattern.

Water rises slowly from below, so the roots grow downward to reach it. The top dries first, the crown stays dry, and the plant stops sitting in constant surface moisture — the real cause of stalled growth.

That’s why many snake plants “do nothing” for years, then suddenly produce pups after this change. You didn’t add fertilizer. You didn’t repot. You just let the roots behave the way the plant evolved to grow.

The plant wasn’t slow.
