Bambulig's Bamboo charcoal briquette is environmentally friendly. It is an ideal charcoal for your barbecue grills because not only does it have a high combustion value, it does not smoke and smell.

Gas Stove are fueled from petroleum or natural gas, which emits less smoke and particulate matter during grilling, but both are non-renewable fossil fuels.

Wood charcoal are proven contributors to ground-level ozone, according to the EPA, and release particulate matter into the air, which can have a negative impact on human health.

Bambulig's Bamboo charcoal briquette is more efficient and cleaner way to cook. Contains no fossil fuels, fillers, or chemicals. Burns clean, with little smoke. Lights easily, no need to use lighter fluid.

Bamboo Charcoal as “The Black Diamond

Referred to as “the Black Diamond” in Japan and Southeast Asia, bamboo charcoal fiber use is an emerging trend in the fashion industry as manufacturers look to combine fashion with function.

The bamboo charcoal is created by heating bamboo at temperatures of 800 degrees and then the charcoal itself is processed and mixed in with fabrics as part of the growing field of nanotechnology.

Nanotechnology is defined as the “understanding, manipulation, and control of matter at the length mentioned above, thus, the physical, chemical, and biological properties of materials (individual atoms, molecules, and bulk matter) can be engineered, synthesized, or altered to develop the next generation of improved materials, devices, structures, and systems.” Hence, textile attributes such as softness, durability, water resistance and breathability can be enhanced with the use of Nanotechnology.

Reasons You Should Use Bamboo Charcoal (Takesumi)

Now that the rainy season is here and humidity is on the rise, many of you may be searching for ways to cope.Today I want to introduce a very useful resource - not just for the rainy season, but all year round.

What is this resource?

Bamboo charcoal, known in Japanese as “takesumi” (竹炭). 竹 is bamboo and 炭 is charcoal.

I discovered takesumi inadvertently a few months ago, and after doing some research, bought some bags of takesumi to try. I’m getting a bit ahead of myself though, what is takesumi good for?

Similar to other forms of activated charcoal, bamboo charcoal is highly porous and capable of absorbing pollutants from both air and water. As such, bamboo charcoal also has the ability to absorb moisture in the air and balance indoor humidity levels, making it ideal to use during the rainy season.

The ultimate, unconventional how-to guide for expats living in Japan.

Medicinal Benefits of Bamboo Charcoal by: Junji Takano

Bamboo charcoal vinegar is extracted when making charcoal and is used for hundreds of treatment on almost all aspects. During the charcoal making process, a lot of smoke comes out from the chimney. When the chimney cools down, condensation occurs and the smoke will turn to a thick black liquid. This liquid is called bamboo charcoal vinegar. We believe that this liquid contains 400 kinds of chemical elements and can be applied in many purposes such as cosmetics, insecticides, deodorants, food processing, and agriculture.

All these benefits were found since charcoal making started thousands of years ago in Japan.

The Goodness of Bamboo Charcoal

Bamboo is amongst the fastest growing plants on record – young shoots can grow all of 4 meters in height overnight while more mature bamboo trees can reach the height of a 6-storey building. Despite its height and quick growth rate, it only has a lifespan of 6~8 years, which is shorter compared to most other trees. Cutting of bamboos has the least effect on the environment and ecosystem compared to other wood trees.

Bamboo Charcoal also positively affects human health directly. The far infra-red rays emitted can help increase blood circulation, thereby easing muscle pain, haemorrhoids, burns and wounds. Bamboo Charcoal, which has been charred under temperatures in excess of 750 degrees Celcius generates and releases negative ions, which neutralise the positive ions emitted from computers, mobile phones, lights and other electronics/electrical appliances around us. Studies have shown that it is these positive ions emitted that make us feel tired after long hours in front of the computer.
