SUPERSTUDIO
“Passiflora” Table Lamp
for Poltronova, 1966
Methacrylate, metal
H_28 cm W_37 cm D_30 cm
Born from the Italian Radical Design movement of the late 1960s, the Passiflora lamp is more than a lighting object. It is a manifesto piece.
Designed by Superstudio for Poltronova, its sculptural floral silhouette moves between nature and artificiality, poetry and provocation. A flower. A cloud. A luminous presence.
Originally conceived for the legendary exhibition *Superarchitettura* in 1966, Passiflora became one of the defining icons of Radical Italian Design. The first prototype was made from painted cardboard before evolving into a translucent illuminated form.
What makes this piece even more extraordinary is its craftsmanship.
Each “petal” tube was individually cut, glued, filed and shaped by hand using tiny tools usually reserved for dental work, known as “mouse tail” files.
A rare object balancing experimentation, humour and sculpture.
