Wood elements were incorporated into the floors and ceiling in the form of slatted panels with acoustic insulation, providing thermal and acoustic comfort while establishing visual harmony with the existing travertine. The inclusion of indoor plants contributes to the humanization of the space and reinforces the company’s identity.

In 2020, he founded LOA_D Lisbon Office for Architecture & Design along with Filipa, where they develop larger scale projects in the areas of housing, residential and building renovation. Francisco was a member of Architect’s Registration Board until 2017 and he has been a member of OA, the Portuguese Institute of Architects, since 2014.

Francisco Pinto Basto

Born in Lisbon, Francisco graduated in Architecture from the UAL University of Lisbon.

He started his professional experience in the practice of João de Almeida and Pedro Ferreira Pinto in Lisbon. At the end of 2009, he joined Foster + Partners in London, where he became an Associate Architect. At Foster + Partners he led projects in master planning, residential, mixed use, transport, and infrastructure. Amongst these, he was part of the team for the Panama airport up to the last phaseof construction, and the Slussen Masterplan in Stockholm, Sweden.

Francisco returned to Lisbon in the end of 2017 and founded Pinto Basto Architecture, where he began to develop projects in Portugal in the sectors of renovation, residential, retail and office, with a major focus in housing.

The main entrance of this project, also located on the eastern side, serves as a central circulation point across all levels of the house. It is framed by two patios, which bring natural light down to the basement level.

The project, Pinheirinho 198, is a private 450 m² holiday residence set on a 3,000 m² plot in Herdade do Pinheirinho, Melides.

The design leverages the natural slope of the terrain by organizing the house into two solid, east–west-oriented ground-floor volumes. These volumes accommodate the service areas, kitchen, and secondary bedrooms. Above them rests a lighter timber-structured upper floor, housing the main bedrooms. This upper level also forms the ceiling for the social areas located below.

The social spaces are accessed from the east, via a gently sloping pathway that captures the morning light. These areas extend westward, opening up to views of the adjacent golf course and the evening sunset.

Filipa George

Born in Lisbon, Filipa graduated in Architecture from Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, and University of Westminster in London, with RIBA Part III.

In Portugal, she had her first professional experience in Aires Mateus & Associados and after finishing her post graduate diploma she joined Foster + Partners in London. At F+P she was involved in mixed use, residential, office and interior projects before joining the core team for the Bloomberg Headquarters in London, an RIBA Stirling Prize 2018.

In 2014 she joined KPF (Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates) to help coordinating the project for the Goldman Sachs Offices in London. She returned to Lisbon in 2016, where she became an Associate Architect at Broadway Malyan, leading several projects in Portugal in hospitality, residential and offices and among these the competition winning entry for the sustainable food court at HCB, Beato Creative Hub.
