From concept to built reality: a new double win at the Architizer A+Awards.

We are pleased to share that Quinta de Adorigo Winery has been recognized by the jury in two categories: Bars & Wineries and Details +Wood.

Architecture is a long, slow path. In 2021, when this project was a mere 'drawing,' it received the Architizer Unbuilt Hospitality and Popular Choice Awards. To see those early intentions materialized, standing today in the landscape, is a testament to the continuity of our work. For the project to be recognized again, validates the studio’s commitment to our craft.

With entries from over 80 countries, being recognized by Architizer’s jury is an achievement that belongs to our team, collaborators and to the clients who trusted the process.

Our thanks to Architizer, and to our partners for walking this long road with us.

QUINTA DE SÃO GIÃO – ONGOING
Upon the completion of a project, photography becomes one of the most important gestures in its architecture: re-designing with light. Capturing an image with sensitivity grants our work continuity, adding a new layer to an evolving process.

A single click can signify an act of either implosion or perpetuation, depending on how a photographer understands light, shape, and context. It is interesting that the tilt-shift lens is so closely associated with architecture; it bends to correct the perspective. This shift aligns the lens with the object, creating the sensation that it isn’t being viewed from the ground up, but rather that we are, somehow, looking straight at it.

The S. Gião lines flow in similar bending movement. We are showing its inner core; its evolving motion. Photos of a construction site are often limited to mere ‘record shots,’ but this process deserves to be captured with the same sensitivity and emotion as a completed work. A continuum, not just a finished product.

The daily labor of bending, laying, casting, and assembling cannot be rushed. It is a hands-on ‘vai-e-vem’ that requires time and deep respect for the process—learning to read the rain, adapting to the unforeseen elements, waiting when necessary, and moving forward in harmony with the environment.

Construction is a craft of respect for the natural elements. Light, the photographer’s primary matter, is one of them.

Exposing the inner core to it, can be transformative.

We are casting light, revealing how a photographer informs what is yet to come at Quinta de S. Gião.

Thanking Irina for trying your equipment in such an ellegant exercise.

COMPLETION - Renovation of DOC restaurant in the Douro Valley

Architecture is an evolving discipline. It is a layering of intentions. We have completed the renovation of the former pier turned Chef Rui Paula’s DOC restaurant; an intervention that recognizes the memory of the pre-existing structure, and prepares it for its ‘new era.’

Located on Cais da Folgosa, the project is a delicate dialogue between the technical demands of the fine-dining restaurant and the profound historical depth of the Douro Valley.

The intervention focused on modernizing an existing infrastructure and elevating the guest experience. Through an 'invisible' eastward expansion, the atelier provided the restaurant with state-of-the-art technical and kitchen facilities without altering the building’s original horizontal silhouette.

In this rehabilitation, the kitchen is no longer a hidden service, but a point of visual clarity present from every space in the restaurant. By opening the views and refining the flow, the project brings to DOC its paramount function: to be a platform for the Douro.

VOTE HERE until April 7th to bring the Archdaily Brasil 2026 Project of the Year award to our Quinta de Adorigo Winery: https://boty.archdaily.com.br/br/2026/candidates/183901/adega-da-quinta-de-adorigo-slash-atelier-sergio-rebelo

For ASR, this project was an exercise in balancing the rugged heritage of the Douro region with a contemporary architectural language. Being recognized by the ArchDaily community reaffirms that the dialogue between local tradition and global innovation is more relevant than ever.

A close-up on the ‘open circle’ building that sits at the heart of Kernel Farms site, connecting with the whole masterplan. It houses a farm-to-table restaurant, children’s activity rooms, and event spaces.

Located in Goshen, NY, KERNEL FARMS is our first project in the US—a glamping experience haven in the Hudson Valley. It is designed for families and multigenerational visitors seeking immersion in nature and contact with the sustainable agricultural networks of Upstate New York.

Designed as a model for multigenerational hospitality, Kernel Farms integrates traditional knowledge with innovative practices across food systems, architecture, and community life.

The site’s architecture is a direct response to its ecology. All infrastructure—roads, pathways, and buildings—rests on timber pilotis, over the wetland area. This elevated construction minimizes environmental impact, preserving the land’s natural water retention capacity and protecting local biodiversity. A wooden walkway weaves through the wetland, connecting clusters of geodesic lodges.

At the heart of the site stands a central ‘open circle’ building that houses a farm-to-table restaurant, children’s activity rooms, and event spaces. On the elevated section of the site, A-frame cabins are nestled within a dense forest canopy. Constructed primarily from timber and clad in cork panels, these structures are carbon-negative, offering guests a tangible experience of low-impact architecture. Their placement carefully balances privacy with communal connection.

Designed as a model for multigenerational hospitality, Kernel Farms integrates traditional knowledge with innovative practices across food systems, architecture, and community life.

We haven't been on social media, was it inconvenient?

We can’t really say, we have been keeping our eyes on our craft. There is the feeling that it was a good thing, and we are grateful for the attention and recognition we got during 2025/26. For the past eight years, we have been working with great people, partners and the best companions (yes we are including our dogs Iggy and Nico). We are working on new projects, that we will be sharing.

We were hit by a digital wave, and architecture moves much slower than scrolling and clicking through social media. Starting our atelier in 2018 almost feels like we are only a couple of months old in 'SoMe years.' We took a step back. We are all caught up.

As architects and etc. we would love to make you pause and take a look around. To notice. To make an art out of it. We design for day-to-day living as a choreography. How does this sound? In modern times, there are countless genres, dances, and movements. We love variety. Variation. Adaptation. And let’s not forget style.

Whether we are working on the rugged slopes of the Douro Valley or within the urban web, our goal remains the same: to create spaces that honor the memory of the place while challenging the conventions of the present. Our pens slide to the rhythm of the friction between slow-paced heritage and the acceleration of the new world.
