Esti mese:

Telt-múlt az idő, esztendő esztendőre. Hófehérke nőtt, növekedett, és hétéves korára olyan szép lett, mint maga a ragyogó nap, szebb még a szépséges királynénál is. Ez eleinte nem sokat törődött a mostohalányával, hanem egyszer aztán gyanút fogott, bezárkózott a szobájába, elővette a tükrét, és megkérdezte:
Mondd meg nékem, kis tükröm:
ki a legszebb a földön?
De a tükör ezúttal nem úgy felelt, ahogyan a királyné szerette volna, hanem azt mondta:
Szép vagy, úrnőm, de tudd meg:
Hófehérke százszor szebb.
