Greetings from The Gardening Chef!
Many of you have questioned the difficulty of farming in our homes, to ensure food security especially in a post COVID world. If we are able to grow our own produce, we can ensure food security for our family.
With COVID-19, there is growing importance of sustainable living and cultivating our own food.
Let us share a bit about our own urban farming efforts.
Like other Singaporeans alike, we live in a high rise
apartment within a concrete jungle. Although we do have a small balcony, and a few empty walls to start our own garden.
Unexpectedly, we started our own growing adventure and grew some edibles for our family to consume.
Our goals in our gardening adventure include the following requirements:
1. Sustainable and low maintenance systems.
2. Plants that are consumable - edible greens that we can use in salads and cooking. As well as herbs for garnishing/flavouring our dishes.
3. Aesthetically pleasing - something that does not over-run the entire balcony
4. Plants that could thrive in partial direct sun or we could grow with LED grow lights.
