I have a conversation with a friend, who is celebrating her birthday, about how she has overcome various life hardships, such as unjustified unemployment and betrayal from friends. I was motivated to pen down my thoughts and some general techniques that I recommended to my clients on phased progress, and methods to achieve a hopeful and purposeful life - GYM.J
Breaking Through in Phases: The Journey Toward Hope
Everyone encounters moments of confusion, low points, and uncertainty during their life journey. These moments often make us doubt our abilities and question the future. However, life is not static, and difficult phases are only temporary. If we approach them with the right mindset and actions, we can overcome the challenges and move toward a future filled with hope and purpose.
Phase 1: Self-Awareness and Acceptance
Before initiating any change, the first step is self-awareness. It involves understanding your current situation, reflecting on your emotional state, and acknowledging your feelings, whether they are anxiety, fear, hatred, betray or disappointment. This phase is about accepting yourself and recognizing the issues. Don't rush into action—take the time to truly understand yourself.
Methods: Spend a few minutes each day meditating or doing deep breathing exercises to calm your mind and observe your thoughts.
Write down your current emotions, difficulties, and uncertainties. Express these feelings rather than suppress them.
Phase 2: Setting Small Goals
Change doesn’t need to happen all at once. Setting achievable small goals helps you see progress step by step, boosting your confidence. Achieving small goals gives you a sense of accomplishment, which gradually helps you rise from a low point.
Methods: Break down big goals into smaller, specific steps that can be completed within one to two weeks.
For example, if the goal is to improve physical health, start by walking 15 minutes a day, then gradually increase the time and intensity.
Phase 3: Active Action and Feedback
Action is the key to change. No matter how small the goal is, taking positive action helps you break the negative cycle and find hope through tangible progress. Feedback is crucial during this process—reflect on which actions are effective and which need adjustment, continually improving your efforts.
Methods: Set a schedule for each small goal, execute it step by step, and track your progress – even a 0.001 improvement.
Regularly reflect and assess which actions have had a positive impact and adjust accordingly.
Phase 4: Seeking Support and Sharing
Sometimes, personal strength alone isn’t enough. In facing challenges, seeking help and support from others is essential. Whether it’s from friends, family, or mentors, they can provide emotional support or practical advice. At the same time, sharing your progress and goals can help you stay motivated.
Methods: Find someone you trust and regularly share your goals and progress with them. They can offer encouragement and advice when you feel lost.
Join like-minded groups or support networks to gain additional strength and inspiration through communication.
Phase 5: Gratitude and Looking Toward the Future
Gratitude helps us find inner peace and strength, even in difficult times. It allows us to realize that despite challenges, there are still many beautiful things in life. At the same time, looking toward the future, continually adjusting and upgrading our goals while maintaining a positive attitude toward life, is key to moving toward hope.
Methods: Write down three things you are grateful for every day. Even the smallest joys can fill your heart with strength. Be grateful even you have a glass of water, a simple meal, breathe the fresh air, able to hold the lift for others, can pick up litter near the lift lobby and care for the environment.
Set long-term goals, envision the ideal state you want to achieve, and keep the desire and confidence alive in your heart.
Each phase presents its own unique challenges and opportunities, but as long as we are willing to face them, adjust our mindset, and take small steps toward our goals, we can rise from the low points and reach the heights of hope. Every step in life is meaningful, and no matter how tough the journey may be, if we courageously take the first step and persevere through each phase, we will eventually move toward a life filled with purpose and hope.

If we train our mind with such capabilities, we will feel greater sense of calmness progressively when rumors and gossips arise, or even the deepest tranquility." quoted - Four Seasons Words of Wisdom [Hope.Embark]
