Following on from my recent colour highlight, Ochre…

I wanted to explore the feeling a colour can create within a space, leading me toward this mood and concept direction inspired by Mediterranean earthiness.

Sun-washed warmth, earthy textures, sculptural forms, softened contrasts, and a palette that feels grounded yet refined.

Less about following one particular style, and more about creating atmosphere through thoughtful layering of colour, materiality, and emotion.

A Note on Colour ~ Ochre

From cherry red, I’m moving into a different expression of bold. Quieter. More grounded.

Ochre is a muted yellow softened with earthy brown. Unlike brighter yellows that can feel sharp and energetic,
ochre holds warmth in a more settled way.

It tends to make a space feel calm, warm, and quietly inviting.
A colour that doesn’t rush you but it lets you slow down and stay.

It carries warmth, but stays grounded.
Soft enough to calm the eye,
rich enough to hold the space together.

In interiors, ochre works beautifully in larger elements. Think of sofas, walls, or key pieces, where it can anchor a space without feeling heavy.

Once paired with natural materials, it brings a sense of authenticity.

It doesn’t demand attention.
It settles the room.

This is a colour that feels lived in, not styled.
Quiet, warm, and deeply intentional.

Admire me ~

There’s a certain kind of work that doesn’t ask for attention.
It simply holds it.

Quiet Places , captured by photographer Jeffrey Kieffer, is exactly that.
A study of stillness, light, and moments that feel almost untouched.

As a designer, I’m always drawn to pieces that do more than fill a wall.
They need to bring something into the space. A feeling, a pause, a shift in energy.

What I admire about this collection is its restraint.
The tones are grounded, the compositions are quiet, yet they carry a depth that feels incredibly present.

It aligns so closely with how I approach interiors.
Soft, intentional, and deeply connected to the natural world.

These five pieces I’m sharing are only a glimpse, but each one holds that same sense of calm and quiet strength.

Work that doesn’t compete with a space, but completes it.

Cherry red, in real design. 🍒

What makes this colour work isn’t just the tone… it’s the balance.

Deep reds paired with soft neutrals, stone, timber, and subtle lighting create a space that feels warm, sophisticated, and calm rather than overwhelming.

It’s a reminder that bold colour doesn’t need to be loud — just intentional.

For the living room, choose a rug that is big enough for at least the front legs of the sofa and chairs to sit on it. This helps the space feel connected and balanced.

A rug that is too small can make the room feel awkward. Bigger usually looks better than too small.

Also think about:
• texture for comfort and style
• colour or pattern to suit the room
• easy-care material for everyday living

The rug should ground the seating area and help the whole room feel more cohesive.

A Note on Colour - Cherry Red

Cherry red 🍒

Deep, sophisticated, sexy and slightly mysterious.
It carries a kind of confidence that doesn’t ask for attention, but holds it.

In interiors, colour is one of the most immediate ways to shift a space.
It doesn’t require a full renovation…just intention.

Cherry red works best when grounded.
Pair it with soft neutrals, warm timbers, brushed metals, or even a muted blush.
It brings depth without overwhelming, and when used sparingly, it feels both classic and unexpected.

A colour I once avoided — now one I’m starting to understand.
