The Playground That Grew

One of the most fun things at Grow Nature Camp didn’t come from a catalogue.

It grew.

It started with one simple stick swing. Then came ladders, bridges, a boat… and slowly, the playground reached higher and higher — until the children were climbing into the trees.

Feet off the ground.
Spinning on the swing.
Flying up towards a branch.
Climbing higher, into the ants’ territory.

And week by week, something else grew too.

Children learned to cross the bridges without fear of falling into the mud. They learned to assess risk, manage their emotions, wait for each other, help each other, and make their own rules for play.

This is more than a playground.

This is where independence begins.
Where confidence grows.
Where children learn to trust themselves — and each other.

If this is where community begins, then perhaps we should simply give children more time to play outside.

The results are more than we can describe.

Come and see it with your own eyes at Grow Forest School.

One little spark becomes a flame.
And one small success becomes the confidence to try something bigger.
From spark to spark, we grow. 🌿🔥

The little flame is more than fire. 🔥
It’s the feeling of “I did it.”

Because when something is hard, kids don’t always need someone to make it easier. They just need the time, space, and freedom to keep trying.

Never give up.
Keep the spark alive.

What colour is hiding inside a leaf? 🍃🎨

Kids picked leaves from the mango tree and Indian almond tree, then turned them into natural colours for tie-dye.

No paint. No artificial colours.
Just leaves, water, fabric, and a little curiosity.

Sometimes nature surprises us with yellow, golden, earthy brown and beautiful shades in between.

Pick it. Try it. Discover it.

Because kids discover their skills when they try.
Never try, never found.

Fresh calamansi, picked straight from the farm, became something magical in the hands of children — a super calamansi juice, made together from scratch. 🍋✨

This week’s theme is Farm to Table, where children discover where food comes from, harvest ingredients, and turn them into something delicious with their own hands.

A heartfelt thank you to Khun Tom, one of our wonderful Grow parents, for sharing these beautiful fruits with our camp community. Small gifts like these become big memories for children.

Real friendship isn’t something we teach.
It’s something children discover.

At Grow Nature Camp, kids come from different schools, different cities, different backgrounds. Different languages. Different stories.

And somehow, they find each other.

They choose their own friends.
They climb trees together.
They carve spoons together.
They row boats together.
They cook together.

They laugh, get muddy, argue, make up — and sometimes simply swing side by side, without needing to say a word.

This is one of the beautiful things about giving children the freedom to be together.

Because growing up isn’t only about learning facts.

It’s learning how to read people.
How to make a friend.
How to say, “I don’t want to do that.”
How to step away when something doesn’t feel right.
How to stand up for yourself.
And, perhaps most importantly, how to be kind.

We love watching friendships begin at camp.

And we love it even more when those friendships carry on long after the week is over.

Maybe this is what childhood is supposed to be:
a little freedom, a few good friends, plenty of adventures — and memories that stay with you.

Let’s Grow Together. 🌱

When children feel safe, they learn to trust.
When they trust, they begin to belong.
And when they belong, they are free to grow.

Give a child a piece of wood and a little time.
Some will make a spoon.
Some will make a fork.
Some will make a knife.
And some will simply discover:
“I love making things.”

What are we cooking in Grow Nature Camp today?

Garden Pasta!

Green from pandan, pink from beetroot, yellow from pumpkin — made by little hands and shaped by big imaginations.

No two pieces look the same. And that’s the beauty of it.

We cook. We create. We share. We enjoy.

Cooking is joy. C’est la vie! 🌱
