Why did this tree fail? 🤔 Exhibit 1) We see evidence of a previous large cut— this large cut served as an entry point for decay to get into the main stem of the tree. ❌🙅🏼Exhibit 2) Evidence of decay that has entered into the main stem of the tree it has continually spread since that initial cut was made which has weakened the tree 😬 unfortunately, large cuts and drastic results are not necessarily making your tree safer. What looks like hazard mitigation today may end up costing you even more in the long-term. This is another reason why it is critical for you to hire properly trained, and credentialed arborists (Such as Accokeek Arborist 😉).

Another hazardous tree down! This massive red oak had significant decay that threatened the client's upcoming garage build— we had to de-limb and shorten the tree so that we could safely fell the stem without it getting tangled in other trees. Watch the impact once the stem hits the ground! This tree was extremely hollow.

Responsible tree decisions are key to caring for the land. When 3 mature trees posed a risk to our client’s property and were removed, we replanted native species to replace the lost canopy and increase biodiversity with species like Loblolly Pine, Swamp White Oak, and Tupelo this spring.
