With colder weather moving in, this quick checklist can help your system stay reliable:
❄️ Change your air filter
Good airflow is essential when temperatures drop lower than we’re used to.
❄️ Keep your thermostat steady
Maintaining a consistent setting helps your system run more efficiently during a cold snap.
❄️ Clear snow and ice from heat pumps
If you use a heat pump, make sure the outdoor unit has room to operate. If the sleet or ice is interfering with fan blade operation, turn your thermostat to auxiliary/emergency heat.
Remember that it is normal for auxiliary heat to turn on when temperatures are extremely low.
❄️ Open cabinets on exterior walls
This allows warm air to circulate around plumbing during freezing conditions.
