The objective of the Annual Allendale Community Field Day is to harness “the power of many volunteers” to work on projects that support outdoor activities on the Allendale Public School K- 8 “campus”. We also hope to promote interaction and enrich the Allendale community as diverse members of the community make new connections while working together. This project is an opportunity for participants

to contribute towards the improvement of outdoor educational facilities that are accessible to all. Fifty community members on the First Annual Allendale Community Field Day in May 2012 planted two gardens with over 70 plant species in support of Project Budburst. The Second Annual Allendale Community Field Day involved the final assembly and painting of bird feeding stations and bat houses and planting of a butterfly waystation garden.

Greetings!
I just wanted to alert you to a family fun event this Sunday at GVSU's Allendale campus near Zumberge Pond and the Kirkhof Center! Keith Piccard and I will be in charge of the water rocket activity!

Here’s the event schedule, which includes some fun, water-related activities for kids:

• 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm Water fun including water rockets, stream tables, runoff models, tattoos, water-color painting and more!
• 3:00-4:00 Dancing by the Pond Open Children’s Class for ages 5-11. Learn and perform a dance inspired by the many ways water moves. Following the class will be a brief showing of what we create. All levels of experience welcome! Sign up your child for the dance class (Space is limited).
• 4:00 - Guest Appearance by Louie the Laker
• 4:30 - 5:30 - Live interactive performance of Paddle to the Sea by Song of the Lakes
• 5:30 - 6:00 - Water fun including water rockets, stream tables, runoff models, tattoos, water-color painting and more!
• 6:00 - 8:00 - Moana by the Pond with popcorn (weather permitting). Bring your blanket and curl up for a showing of Moana.

*Making Waves is designed to create collaboration across campus among students, faculty, and staff, as well as with the community. The goal of the Initiative is to explore and investigate the many ways that water touches our lives, from being a life-force to defining GVSU in relation to the Grand River and Lake Michigan.

Lightening Bugs and Summer Go Hand - in - Hand. Keith Piccard is hosting a station where you can get all your questions about lightening bugs answered. For instance, why do they light up? how do they light up? and what is their life cycle? Even though the arrival of lightening bugs in west Michigan appears to be delayed, come learn about these amazing insects that deserve our appreciation. Use your knowledge to amaze your less fortunate friends who did not attend AACFD.

Allendale Community Field Day Will Go On Rain or Shine! AACFD has been held outside six of our 7 years! If the weather looks like rain, we will hold the event inside at the nearby Evergreen Elementary in the gym and cafeteria. We'll have all the same stations and lunch, just inside so we don't get wet. Check Facebook on Friday to see what our "call" is.
