Spring is almost here which means it’s the perfect time to grow your gardening knowledge. 🌱

Join UNH Extension Master Gardeners for the Spring Garden Symposium on Saturday, March 21 at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH.

This full-day event brings gardeners of all experience levels together for inspiring speakers, hands-on workshops, and opportunities to connect with fellow gardening enthusiasts. 🪻

Participants will enjoy three featured presentations (also available via live stream), in-person workshops, a garden-themed book sale, vendors, and a silent auction featuring tools, supplies, experiences and more.

Proceeds from the auction support educational and community garden projects led by UNH Extension Master Gardener volunteers across New Hampshire.

Whether you're new to gardening or looking to sharpen your skills, the Spring Garden Symposium offers a day of learning, inspiration and community. 💙

Ready to sharpen your pruning skills this spring? ✂️🌿

UNH Extension’s annual pruning demonstrations are back for the 2026 season.

Join our Fruit and Vegetable Team at locations across New Hampshire to learn best practices for pruning tree fruit, blueberries, grapes and ornamentals.

Each hands-on session highlights the crops grown at the host site — so every workshop offers something a little different.

🍂🍁To rake or not to rake, that is the question. 😃

Great information from our friends at UNH Extension 🍁🍂

Should you rake your leaves this fall… or let them be? 🍂

A light layer of leaves is fine for wildlife and soil, but when they build up, they can smother grass, block spring growth, and increase the risk of snow mold.

If you want to protect your lawn, light fall cleanup or mulching leaves with a mower can help. Shredded leaves break down more easily and add organic matter back into the soil.

Composting leaves is another option if you have the space as they naturally break down into material that benefits garden soils over time.

🧡 How about a big round of applause for our Alton Garden Club SCARECROW creators shining bright at the Ginny Douglas Gazebo! 🫶

Joan Blackwood & Jane Bradbury designed “The Straw Man” inspired from The Wizard of Oz. 🧙 His chicken wire body is formed around a hall tree from the Swap Shop. 🫶 His pants came from a thrift store and his shirt was made from an old army blanket. Both his hat and shoes have plastic flower pots as a base. The crow and his face are papier-mâché.

🌻 Next to “The Straw Man” is “Gardenia”, a beautiful sunflower scarecrow created by Alton Garden Club talented members: Karen Enos, Esther Hollo, Roberta Mank and Priscilla Terry! We’re loving all the details on her, especially her garden gloves and flowered sunhat! 🫶🧡🫶

You can’t miss this display set up in the 🧡 of Alton Village at the Ginny Douglas Gazebo for the “Scarecrows in the Square” festive display throughout downtown Alton Village and the Monument Square Historic District! 🍂 Come take a stroll through downtown and check it out!

Also did you know, Ginny Douglas Gazebo is just one of the many garden areas the Garden Club VOLUNTEERS maintain?!

🧡 THANK YOU again to all our members who created fun + festive SCARECROWS for our COMMUNITY to enjoy!
