Before and after transformation on this beautiful home in Winona, Minnesota.

Our team at Top Hat Painting restored and refreshed all exterior wood surfaces using Sherwin-Williams WoodScapes Rain Refresh stain. From the front timber accents and porch columns to the screened-in porch, every wood feature was carefully cleaned, prepped, and professionally coated to bring back rich color and long-lasting protection.

The finished result gives the home a clean, updated appearance while helping protect the wood from the harsh Midwest weather for years to come.

There’s something special about helping preserve a piece of local history. Be sure to look at all of the pictures from start to finish. 

This granary in Fall Creek, Wisconsin is over 140 years old and has seen a lot of life over the decades. The structure had begun separating heavily at one corner, so before painting, we helped secure and stabilize part of the building to help hold it together until a full restoration can eventually take place.

Once that was completed, Top Hat Painting was asked to repaint the entire granary.

This project involved extensive scraping, full surface preparation, primer application, and two full finish coats to help protect and refresh the old wood while maintaining the character of the building.

Projects like this remind us that painting is about more than appearance — it’s about preserving craftsmanship and extending the life of structures that still have a story to tell.

Another one brought back to life by Top Hat Painting

This garage had seen years of wear — heavy peeling, exposed wood, failing paint, and weather damage throughout. Instead of just covering it up, we took the time to do it right.

We just got back from a trip down to Kansas for this lakefront project, and in three days completely brought this deck and stair system back to life.

This wasn’t just a quick coat of stain. A lot of the boards had started to loosen and fail, so we went through and pulled problem areas, re-secured everything from underneath, and made sure the structure was solid before touching any finish work.

Once everything was tightened up and prepped properly, we coated the entire surface with Sherwin-Williams Deck & Dock. The goal wasn’t just to make it look better, but to give it a durable, uniform finish that will hold up to heavy use and the elements.

Big difference from where it started. More importantly, it’s safe, solid, and ready for the season.

We’re booking out for summer now, but still taking on the right projects. If your deck is starting to look worn or feel questionable underfoot, it’s worth addressing before it turns into a bigger problem.
