💡 PRO TIP: Don't Scalp Your Lawn for Winter! ✂️
There's an old myth that you should cut your lawn as short as possible before winter—that’s a mistake!
The Golden Rule: The final cut should be slightly lower than your summer height (around 2.5-3 inches), but never scalped. A little length is essential!
Why the right height matters:
* Prevents Snow Mold: Too long and it mats down, inviting fungus.
* Insulation: Too short and the crown is exposed to harsh temperatures.
* Root Protection: Leaving 2.5-3 inches of blade protects the root system, storing energy for a vibrant spring green-up.
Pro Tip: For all grass types, the final height should be reached gradually (over the last few mows) to avoid stressing the turf, especially important with Central Virginia's fluctuating fall temperatures.
