The client for the Labrador Woods project approached us with the vision of connecting a social space with the beauty of the outdoors. The goal was that of a naturalistic and somewhat rustic entertainment and dining space that could easily be accessed from a separate entertainment area on the deck adjacent to the house.

Situated on a beautiful, private site surrounded by majestic maple and pine forest, the topography lent itself beautifully to the three level living space. After meeting with the client, two options were presented. The first being a more linear form, arranged on axis with the existing sunroom and the chosen, more organic design that is seen here.

The upper level of the lower two-tiered terrace incorporates an outdoor kitchen with stainless steel components for easy maintenance and the beauty of salt and pepper granite countertops allowing for food and beverage to easily be stored or accessed by guests.

The large, mosaic-patterned stone paving combined with the curved sitting walls set off the rustic tone for the space, and the integration of gently curved plant beds provide a softening contrast to the bold vertical and horizontal stonework.

The final feature, an inviting fireplace is just a step down from the dining terrace. With the vast woodlands beyond, a warm wood fire in this sturdy granite structure is just the spot to sit and enjoy on a cool evening with family and friends.

Built from the ground up, the grading of this property was incorporated seamlessly into this project, allowing for you to feel as if you’re either sitting above as you enjoy the woodland surroundings beyond, or floating throughout the various areas this final design has accommodated.

Located near the idyllic town of Pocasset on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, this spectacular property is situated right on the edge of Buzzards Bay, offering a wonderful, unobstructed water view that makes this area of the state so popular. The goal of this project was that of a re-design and enhancement of an existing pool area and addition of a raised spa, allowing for greater outdoor entertainment, relaxation and to take full advantage of the amazing view at hand.

The planting varieties were specifically chosen because of their low diminutive nature, keeping the view as clear and open as possible. Colors were that of dramatic purple shades from catmint and salvia and were combined with the yellow of the daylily, steel blue of the fescue and the dark green of the dwarf evergreens, all combining to work harmoniously with the greys and blues of the house itself.

This transformative project is another fine example of the collaborative nature we are known for. The thoughts, ideas and dreams of the client were gathered with the result of combining beauty with a very functional design. Adjacent to the pool itself, a herringbone brick patio with custom granite fire ring was designed and installed, in addition to utilizing a blue-stone capped fieldstone wall that gently separates the various spaces. This combination of form and function allows for additional seating where visitors could split their attention between the entertainment area, the pool and spa, or that of the majestic view of the bay itself.

A treasured family retreat, the results of this project have not only integrated seamlessly into the house itself, but has created an enhanced experience allowing for either private relaxation or larger social gatherings.

Hillcrest Farm Bocce Court

The Hillcrest Farm Bocce Court was designed and incorporated into a larger recreation area adjacent to the pool area which includes a horseshoe pit and volleyball lawn. The recessed clay court surface is surrounded by a bluestone walkway and flanked at each end by teak benches.

The Croton Hills project was once an historic farm house from the early 19th century, located in the surrounding area of Wellesley, Massachusetts. A completely renovated and expanded home, it was transformed into a wonderful family retreat and verdant oasis, combining beauty, form and function with some surprising results.

Hired to develop the landscape design for the entire project, the client’s dream was to create an ample large green space in which her kids could play, family could gather and even be transformed via a painted “gridiron” for their annual Thanksgiving day football game on the lawn accessed from the house.

As you step directly out of the residence, you encounter a traditional brick terrace and surrounding fieldstone sitting walls, with plenty of room for socializing or cheering on your favorite team. The large, bluestone steps with grass landings are an inviting transition from terrace to lawn and allowed for easy access for “substitutions” as the game progressed.

Hidden on the north side of the residence is a stone pathway naturalistic in character, connecting the front yard of the home to the rear yard. It features native plantings of perennials, ground covers, flowering shrubs, and evergreen trees. The pathway is dotted with large landscape boulders, naturally nestled between the plants as if they’ve always been there.

A unique feature of this project was the incorporation of a 22ft spruce in the back, as well as transplanting a number of original legacy trees the client had planted for her children at their original residence and now wanted incorporated into this new space.

Whether an area for quiet reflection, large social gatherings, or just fun and frolicking, this project has matured and grown with the family, where kids are now adults and grandchildren will have the opportunity to enjoy their families traditions in this beautiful location.
