June heat arrives faster than most Andover lawns are prepared to handle.

Here are 3 mistakes we see on local properties every single summer.

These seem small. They compound fast.

A quick tune up now saves you from a brown, patchy lawn by August.

Mulch is one of the best things you can do for your yard. It retains moisture, suppresses w**ds, and keeps roots insulated through a New England winter.

But there's one mistake that cancels all of it out: piling it against the base of your trees and shrubs.

It's called "volcano mulching", and it slowly rots the bark, invites pests, and weakens the plant from the ground up. You've probably seen it on half the properties in Andover without knowing what it was.

The fix is simple: keep mulch 2–3 inches away from the trunk, and max depth at 3 inches across the bed.

Small detail. Big difference over time.

Got a mulch installation coming up this spring? We do it right, every time. Free estimates at tblawncare.com.

June 1st is near.

If you’re still waiting to book a landscaper, here’s the reality: the best crews in Andover fill their summer schedules in May. Not June. Not “when you get around to it.”

T&B Landscaping has a few remaining spots for new clients this season. After that, it’s a waitlist.

Spring cleanup, lawn maintenance plans, patio installations, irrigation, whatever your property needs, now is the moment.

This is the team behind the lawns, patios, retaining walls, and irrigation systems you’ve seen around Andover for 20+ years.

Licensed stonemasons. Certified irrigation specialists. Experienced carpenters. Not a rotating crew of strangers, people who know this town, know these properties, and know their craft.

We started T&B in 2003 because we believed Andover homeowners deserved better than what was out there. That’s still what drives us.

If you’ve never worked with us before or you’re looking for a landscaper you can actually rely on, we’d love to help you.

Not every plant survives a New England winter. These five do and they look great doing it.

1. Little Bluestem — native grass, drought-tolerant, beautiful fall color
2. Black-Eyed Susan — pollinators love it, low maintenance
3. Inkberry Holly — evergreen, great for screening, deer-resistant
4. Baptisia — deep roots, zero fuss after year one
5. Coneflower — summer color, attracts butterflies all season

All five can be incorporated into a planting design this spring. Curious what works for your specific yard?

Save this post and send us a message, we’ll point you in the right direction.

Six weeks from now, this could be your lawn.

Or six weeks from now, you could still be looking at the same patchy, uneven grass, wishing you had called in May.

A consistent maintenance plan through spring is what separates a lawn that looks great all summer from one that struggles in the heat.

T&B's lawn care programs cover everything: mowing, edging, seasonal treatments. One call, handled all season.

Cutting your lawn too short in May. It's the most common spring mistake, and it sets your lawn up for a rough summer.

New England grass is still establishing root depth this time of year. Mow too low and you stress it right before the heat hits.

The rule: never cut more than ⅓ of the blade at a time. In May, that usually means keeping height at 3–3.5 inches.

Small adjustment. Big difference by July.
