We’re celebrating with our favorite crew — happy dogs guarding our poultry family, healthy chickens in the pasture, and a whole lot of farm love. Nothing says romance like muddy boots, wagging tails, and fresh farm goodness.

Keep the love going this Sunday at the Wellen Park Farmers Market from 9-2! You’ll find us front and center, right outside the art festival, stocked up and ready to see all of you. Come say hi, grab your farm favorites, and make it a Valentine’s weekend to remember. ❤️

After an absolutely brutal week of weather, we woke up to the best kind of surprise yesterday morning. 🐣

One of our hens had quietly snuck off and laid a hidden nest we never found—and somehow, in the middle of 20–30° temps and 40–50 mph winds, a chick hatched.

These animals never cease to amaze me. Resilient, determined, and tough as they come. Life really does always find a way. 💛

No farmers market for us this Sunday—but for a great reason! 🐓 We’re at the APPPA conference diving deep into all things pastured poultry and chicken, and meeting so many incredible, hardworking, and passionate industry experts. We’re feeling inspired and energized as we learn new ways to better serve our customers and continue providing clean, responsibly raised meat. Can’t wait to bring these ideas back to our farm and to YOU. See everyone next week and stay warm! 🥶🥰

Go see our dear friends at Arbuckle Cattle and support their new market if you’re in the Avon Park area. It’s a beautiful drive out there and some of the tastiest grass fed grass finished beef that we’ve had! In addition they are offering several other small farms goodies and treats including breads, raw milk, and honey. 🥰🥳

We’re all getting excited to show off the new Farmers Pantry here in Avon Park!!!

🦩✨ First day back at the Englewood Farmers Market for the 2025–2026 season was a flamazing success! We were so happy to flamingle with everyone who stopped by. Our pasture-raised poultry may not stand on one leg like flamingos, but they sure do lay eggs worth strutting about. 🐓🥚💛

What a fun way to spend last Saturday at our local Tractor Supply for an annual pop up farmers market. We are always excited and grateful when we meet so many new faces AND get to educate so many locals about poultry farming and agriculture. We look forward to continued growth in our local southwest Florida communities for the upcoming 2025-2026 season.

Stay tuned to see a glimpse into our “food forest”. While she is young, many of our plants are starting to produce! We hope one day our cup is so full that we can offer the public delicious fruit from our home grown food forest. 🌳🍑🍉🍒🍌🍍🍋🍊🥭🍅

🐾 Yesterday was International Dog Day… and we were so busy hanging out with Miss Strawberry in the field that we forgot to post about it! 🌱🌾💛🐓

Meet Strawberry 🍓—our newest farm pup and professional treat tester. On her very first day here, she struck a pose while modeling our farm’s ONE-ingredient, non-GMO dog treat: a dehydrated chicken foot! 🐔✨ Safe to say, it helped her feel right at home!

And here’s the best part—your pup can enjoy them too! 🎉 We’ve got bags of our homemade dog treats available for just $5. 🤑🤑🤑

🌧️🚗🐔 Out here making deliveries in the middle of torrential rain and flooding… guess you could say we’re really winging it! Nothing like a little coop-eration with Mother Nature to make sure our customers don’t get left egg-stranded. 🤪🥚🍳

This week was so busy we almost missed it. We are excited to introduce an old, familiar face AND the newest recruit to our farm security team — Straw-Beary! 🍓🐻

She’s a purebred Maremma and today marks Day 2 on the job. Right now, she’s getting settled in, learning the smells of the pasture, and practicing her “serious guardian face” (between play sessions, of course 🐶✨).

We can’t wait to make the official introduction between Straw-Beary and our Head of Security, Bear 🐻. This gentle giant is 90% Great Pyrenees, 10% Caucasian Shepherd, and 100% devoted to protecting the flock. Bear spends his days patrolling the pastures, scanning the skies for hawks, and making sure no sneaky predators try anything funny. He takes his role seriously (anything on two wheels is public enemy #1) but he still finds time for the occasional ear scratch and belly rub.

Without their loyal service, Desoto Food Forest would not be able to provide our customers with delicious poultry that was raised in a healthy, safe, and secure environment. These livestock guardian dogs are quite literally our “employees of the year” and most importantly, our family. Together, the Beary’s 🍓🐻 are going to be the dynamic duo that keeps our chickens, ducks, and farm family safe day and night. 🐾💙
