5 Pet-Safe Houseplants That Are Actually Cute 💞🪴✨

Looking for houseplants that are safe around curious pets? Here are 5 favorites that bring plenty of personality without the worry:

1. Stromanthe ‘Triostar’
One of the most colorful foliage plants you can grow. Its leaves are splashed with shades of green, cream, pink, and burgundy, with vibrant pink undersides that fold upward at night like praying hands.

Care: Bright, indirect light. Keep the soil lightly moist and don’t let it fully dry out. Appreciates higher humidity.

2. Boston Fern
A classic for a reason. Boston ferns are natural air humidifiers and can produce lush fronds several feet long when happy.

Care: Bright indirect light. Likes consistently moist soil and thrives with higher humidity.

3. Hoya kerrii (Sweetheart Plant)
Known for its adorable heart-shaped leaves. Those single-leaf plants sold around Valentine’s Day can live for years, but only a cutting with a stem node will eventually grow into a vining plant.

Care: Bright indirect light with some gentle sun. Allow the soil to dry between waterings and use a chunky, well-draining potting mix.

4. Calathea ‘Dottie’
Deep purple-black leaves outlined with bright pink markings make this one look almost hand-painted. Like other prayer plants, its leaves move throughout the day and night.

Care: Medium to bright indirect light. Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Enjoys higher humidity.

5. Staghorn Fern
Unlike most ferns, staghorns naturally grow attached to trees in the wild. Their antler-shaped fronds give them their iconic look, and they can even be grown mounted on wood.

Care: Bright indirect light. Water when partially dry, then soak thoroughly. Prefers humidity and good airflow.

Which one would you add to your collection?

🌿✨ Our favorite members of the Marantaceae family ✨🌿

Known for their incredible leaf patterns, colorful undersides, and daily movement, plants in the Marantaceae family are some of the most eye-catching houseplants you can grow. This group includes favorites like Calatheas, Marantas, Ctenanthe, and Stromanthe.

One of their most fascinating traits is a behavior called nyctinasty, their leaves move throughout the day in response to light and often fold upward in the evening, giving rise to the nickname “prayer plants.”

They’re also pet-safe, making them a wonderful choice for homes with curious cats and dogs.

For happy plants:
• Bright, indirect light
• Consistently moist (but not soggy) soil
• Moderate to high humidity
• Filtered water can help prevent crispy leaf edges in some varieties

While some members of the family have a reputation for being fussy, many are surprisingly easy once you find the right spot. Their incredible patterns, colors, and movement make them well worth the effort.
