Was ready to leave after a beautiful day in the greenhouse when I spotted this Agave getting ready to bloom. Usually this would happen in the summer but the warm weather is throwing everything off this year!

After 3 days of searching and querying many professionals, thanks to Altman Plants we now have an identification. With rather soft leaves I was completely thrown off that it was not an aloe/agave hybrid, but instead it is :Da Da…..Agave guiengola ‘Creme Brûlée aka Marginata. Thank you so much ALTMAN PLANTS! I can now put my painting up on andreapicasohenry.com where prints will be available! Yeah!

I came across this old photo I took in the greenhouse with Bill. I’m pretty sure I staged this scene to resemble the way I would repeat in a space at an upcoming show. It was probably around 2017.

I delivered this succulent creation in May. Here it is September and with absolutely no care they look better than ever. I recommend succulents if you want arrangements that look good all summer even while you might be away. So nice to come home and find your plants still thriving! We also have winter storage here, or the option to have your container planted with new material in the spring. We have one of the most diverse collections of succulents in the area.

Here Bill and I are at a succulent nursery in California in 2008. Bill won the last all expense paid pack trial trip to California given by Greenhouse Grower magazine while we were attending the Southeast Greenhouse Conference in Greenville, California. The entire trip was very exciting with Delilah Onofrey and Alan Armitage. This was a little side trip we took on our own.

My father gave me this peony when I moved here almost 37 yrs ago. I can remember it very well growing in our backyard since the early 60’s at least in Rhode Island. It is near the tree, but not being supported by it. It’s stems are strong and it’s flowers although smaller than I see in Belle Meade are standing up very tall and straight. I give it no special care, not even fertilizer or water. Wondering if it isn’t better off with the lack of care needing no support like the soft floppy ones I see in irrigated gardens?
Every morning I go out and say “hello” to my father and remember this gift. Sharing plants and passing them down is one of the best gardening memories we can have.
