I harvested all but 5 loofahs from the vine today. Bringing this years harvest total to 45! Not too bad for my first year!

I have already collected hundreds of seeds from the ones I’ve harvested! Let me know if you’re interested in growing your own sponges this year. I’ll be packaging them tomorrow!

Loofahs are still growing at a great pace. I had to harvest one a bit early because my wild puppy got into the garden and chewed the end off. 🤣🤷‍♀️

I plan on cutting them down and incorporating them into soap with my homemade lavender oil. Stick around for some Christmas ideas.

I haven’t updated in a while, but I’m done making bouquets for the season. I’m now focused on how long my current garden blooms will last, which will guide my choices for next year’s growing season. I also have lots of monarchs and swallowtails visiting daily, so I’m leaving the remaining flowers for them and focusing on saving seeds.

Did you know you can actually grow a loofah sponge? Neither did I until last year!

And oh my gourd they did not disappoint!

I have researched, talked to new growing friends, and watched a billion videos on the entire growing process. I'm finding what works best for me each step of the way.

Today I finally got to harvest my very first loofah!!! I definitely did it in a controversial way but we have a bit of delayed growth this year (pretty much everyone I know in zone 6 is experiencing this delay).

So I decided to experiment with one of my large loofahs and harvest it from the vine before it had time to dry. It had already begun firming up and had a couple of brown spots so I just went for it. I'll be patient with the others but not my first 😉.

I am eager to share the details of my first booth setup over the weekend in Southern Point. However, today is dedicated to celebrating my son Eli's fifth birthday.

As for today's garden updates, I had the privilege of witnessing my first-ever visit from a hummingbird hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum) on my agastache. It is truly an honor to provide a haven for such unique visitors.
