And Abundance was born. 💚

Daniel had always imagined using his agro-ecology degree to build foodscapes
but sometimes you just need a little nudge.

When the world shut down — and so did his 9–5, that nudge arrived.

We’ll forever be grateful for those first clients, many of them friends and colleagues, who trusted him with their yards and their snackyard dreams.

What started as a few backyard gardens has grown into hundreds of clients and a full-service landscape design + build firm rooted in ecology, beauty, and connection.

Here’s to the next five years. đŸŒ± snackyard

Wow, do we feel privileged to work with these guys. We hear it again and again from clients how kind, conscientious, talented, and hard-working our crew is. It’s hard to put into words how much we value them as teammates + friends.

Photo 1 — Last winter, we had the honor of visiting Eduardo and Sebastian in their beautiful home country of Ecuador during their time off. They took us on the trip of a lifetime through the GalĂĄpagos, Quito, Baños, and the jungle. An experience we’ll never forget.

Photo 2 — đŸ’Ș Our small but mighty install team. Clients are always shocked by what they accomplish in a single day. Their attitudes and craftsmanship set the tone for everything we do.

Photo 3 — Paul, who is having a real Snow White moment here, has been with us for over four years!!With a degree in architecture, he’s now our full-time designer (and resident plant expert), but you’ll still catch him in the field from time to time. If you know him, you know his care for our clients and his eye for detail are unmatched.

Photo 4 — Sebastian, Daniel, Sarah, and Sebastian’s gorgeous wife in Quito. One of the biggest highlights of our trip was meeting their families. They were warm, welcoming, fun, and incredibly patient with our (very) rusty Spanish.

Photo 5 — Sebastian’s daughter joking around with Daniel, proving he is indeed a certified Funkle of the world. 😂

We are endlessly grateful for this team, the true heart of Abundance. None of what we do is possible without them. 💚

This Grant Park landscape transformation was filled with so many sweet moments. We truly had so much fun working with this lovely family.

Despite it being a relatively small, mostly shady yard, we’re really excited about how we were able to create an inviting space that encourages them to connect with both each other and with nature, grow their own food, and support our local ecosystem. Those may seem like competing priorities, but with intentional design you really can have an abundant space that is beautifully inviting AND symbiotic with nature.

And they’re already feeling the impact. During one of my check-ins, they told me how empowered they feel growing their own food and can’t wait to expand — this is WHY we do what we do. I have a feeling there are some fruit trees in their future. 🍑🌿

Huge shoutout to our team for their hard work on this one. We had a few challenges along the way, but they always stay positive and persist. 💚

This West End project started with a familiar Atlanta challenge: patchy planting, chronic flooding, minimal biodiversity, and no clear sense of place.

Daniel led the landscape design with one goal in mind: to create a space that felt genuinely welcoming. We love a good challenge —like reworking the drainage and finding a way to reuse the beautiful old brick into something that felt both grounded and fresh.

The result? A backyard that’s now a true retreat. The clients told us, “This transformation is beyond what we ever imagined”—and that’s exactly the kind of feedback we love to hear.

We DID have a feeling it would be a great fit when we randomly ran into them at Muchacho after a Lake Street Dive show at The Eastern before the project even started. Sometimes, you just know you’re building something special for the right people.

Ready to transform your own outdoor space into a native oasis? Let’s chat.

🩋 Save this if you need a little more magic + joy in your life! Plus butterflies are an important part of our ecosystem ↓

‱ They’re pollinators! Butterflies help fertilize native plants, fruits, and veggies.
‱ Caterpillars are a crucial food source for birds (especially during nesting season).
‱ They’re indicators of ecosystem health. A thriving butterfly population signals a balanced, biodiverse garden.

💚Remember!! Many butterflies rely on keystone host plants—like milkweed for monarchs and passionflower for gulf fritillaries. Without these plants, entire food webs start to unravel. So let’s get planting!

Is focusing on creating beauty frivolous when it feels like there are more “important” things we should be doing?

It’s something I’ve asked myself—especially after years in nonprofits and disaster response.

In my former career, I spent long days talking to people whose lives had been upended by hurricanes and tornadoes. The work was emotional and exhausting—but undeniably meaningful.

At the end of each day, I’d rush home to catch the last ten minutes of daylight in my garden.

That sliver of beauty—that quiet, grounded moment—was just enough to steady my nervous system so I could show up fully again for the people I was serving the next day.

So no, I’ve come to believe that creating and finding beauty isn’t frivolous. It’s necessary.

At Abundance, we care deeply about environmental and health impact. We plant for pollinators. We help people grow food. We build spaces that support ecosystems and personal well-being.

But just as much, we care about the aesthetic and how a space makes you FEEL.

Because beauty and focusing on the little details is what makes a landscape feel approachable, inviting, and worth caring for. It builds connection. It calms the nervous system.

Beauty isn’t an “extra” for us, and it certainly isn’t frivolous.

Creating and experiencing beauty helps us stay resilient in a chaotic world—and motivates us to keep investing in ourselves, each other, and the earth. It is a foundation of what we do at Abundance. 💚
