I can’t tell you how many times we’ve repainted over walls because the color looked great on paper but didn’t translate to the space. Even doing small swatches on the walls didn’t work for us. We started painting large swatches on multiple walls in the room. This helped us solidify our choice by seeing the color in different lighting throughout the day (and in different areas of the room).

Your room color really defines your space and sets the tone for the rest of the room. The effort it takes to sample is well worth getting it just right! Remember each space is different and what color works for you might not work for someone else.

Last tip: Many stores sell pre-painted peel and stick samples to make this design step even easier!

Working with this landscape, we had a few obstacles: it’s mostly shaded, plantings needed to be below the windows, oh and the 🦌!

Considering this, we chose sweet flag grass, cast iron plants, autumn ferns and a dwarf yew as the centerpiece.

These plants thrive in shady environments and won’t grow taller than 2 feet. They’re also resistant toward our doe eyed friends.

If you aren’t blessed with abundant cabinet storage, use your wall space to create more options! Walls are easily overlooked as our organizing saviors.

For example, a wall in the kitchen is ideal for floating shelving to display your most used items or your more attractive plates and bowls. A hanging bulletin command center is great for catching all the paper clutter. Don’t forget to embrace wall hooks and racks. These tips can be used throughout your home in the entryway, kitchen, closet and garage.

Ummmm yea!!

This was a fun project! We enjoyed working with the existing carpentry to create a new look. Revamping the kitchen flow created an open concept that made the ultimate gathering place in this home.

After devastating water damage, we had the chance to remodel mom’s kitchen. We took this opportunity to brighten the space. The kitchen only gets natural light in the morning, so we chose fresh colors for the illusion of more light in the afternoon. We went with a neutral palette to stand the test of time. Adding pops of color through accessories and textiles will bring character to the space (and are easy to change). We were able to please pops by incorporating a dark stained kitchen island and updated appliances. Since mom is a fan of the herringbone pattern and quartz countertops, she definitely had her way with this one!
