2 of 2 posts: full sun planter-garden site. Because the heat is so intense up here, and the days so long, we have drip line irrigation in addition to self-watering planters. Even with a 6-week drought, we’ve had great luck with the planters this year.

1 of 2 posts of this full sun planter-garden site. It has become one of my favorite seasonal projects. There are about a dozen very large planters on this driveway which sits about 20’ above ground, so it’s really like a roof top garden environment, receiving 10-12 hours of sun a day. Plenty of room for lots of color.

Post 5 of 5, Pond Garden Renovation Project, year 3. I usually don’t post photos of my landscape renovation projects until 2 or 3 years afterwards. It takes time to build a garden, and patience. And sometimes it takes a couple of years to locate “that one missing perennial” - but I can always find the perfect spot for any “newcomers.” In addition to the garden, there are half a dozen flowerbeds, and at least 25 container gardens, all of which must be re-created each April when my clients return from their winter hideaway. (The word “patience” is not in their vocabulary 🤣) My assistant and I spend two hours every week attending to the perennials and container gardens, keeping everything well-groomed so that re-blooming is encouraged - under the watchful and appreciative eyes of my clients who are a joy to work for.

Post 4 of 5: Pond Garden Renovation Project, year 3. Here are a few more of the shrubs and perennials in the garden: re-blooming daylilies and roses, irises from earlier in the season, summer hibiscus, and many other pollinator plants. The garden is a wildlife habitat. There are koi fish in the pond and my client keeps the bird feeders full at all times. NOT ALLOWED: DEER! The fence has kept them out to date, but we see them running across the golf course.

Post 2 of 5: Pond Garden Renovation Project, year 3. Some of the plants and perennials chosen for the garden are shown here. Criteria for the plants: disease resistance, profuse bloom production, and reliability - our winters can be unseasonably brutal, so I needed to use perennials and plants that would return year after year.

1 of 5 posts of the same project: Pond Garden Renovation. This is year three, and it’s finally reached its peak. (Before pictures also included in one of the five posts.) The clients spend seven months (April-October) of the year at this home and they spend most of it outside in this garden. They wanted a botanical retreat in which flowers could be seen from every window inside as well as outside the house - for seven straight months. My only instructions were: leave no bare earth uncovered. It’s been a joy to work on this, and I have an amazing crew and assistant who made this possible. Here is an overview of the back landscape as it is today.
