Recognized with an Excellence in Rehabilitation Award, The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation recently highlighted the Allison Building in Americus, GA.

Lord Aeck Sargent adapted the 1906 historic downtown building for a new mix of uses, with 12 residential units on the upper floors and two commercial spaces at street level. The project introduced new systems and an elevator while retaining significant historic elements, including the building’s load-bearing masonry, timber framing, decorative wood columns, beadboard ceilings, and salvaged wood flooring.

The Georgia Trust’s feature offers a closer look at the project and the role thoughtful rehabilitation can play in bringing historic buildings into continued use.

Lord Aeck Sargent was honored to join Georgia Tech for the ribbon-cutting and naming ceremony of the new Bud and Val Peterson Residence Hall, GT's newest residence hall and the first one built for freshmen students in several decades!

Designed in collaboration with Mithun, this new residence hall provides 862 beds for first-year students, along with collaborative learning areas, community lounges, fitness and recreation spaces, communal kitchens, and other shared spaces. The design brings together student rooms with places to study, gather, and connect throughout the building, creating opportunities for students to engage with one another and campus life, and to build community.

We’re proud to celebrate this milestone with Georgia Tech and our partners, as the Bud and Val Peterson Residence Hall prepares to welcome its first residents this weekend!

Happy 50th anniversary to Chattahoochee Nature Center!

For five decades, the Chattahoochee Nature Center has inspired environmental stewardship through education, conservation, and wildlife rehabilitation, growing from its original 6.7-acre site into a 127-acre campus. Lord Aeck Sargent is grateful to have been part of that journey through campus master planning and the design of the LEED® Gold-certified Discovery Center Museum and Discovery Pavilion—spaces that support the Center's continued growth and mission through sustainable, nature-inspired design.

Congratulations on 50 years of protecting Georgia's natural resources and inspiring generations of environmental advocates. We're proud to celebrate this milestone alongside you and look forward to seeing your impact continue for years to come.

"Being elevated to the College of Fellows, although it is an individual award, shows that the projects we have completed at LAS over the last 30 years have made a difference for millions of students, visitors and scientists." — John Starr '83

As we celebrate John Starr, FAIA, on his elevation to The American Institute of Architects College of Fellows, we're reflecting on the lasting impact he continues to have at his alma mater, Auburn University.

John is helping shape the next generation of architects by leading Lord Aeck Sargent's participation as a case study firm in Auburn's Architecture Professional Practice course. He's also leaving a lasting mark on campus as the design lead for the 265,000-square-foot STEM and Agricultural Science Research Complex, a collaboration with Goodwyn Mills Cawood that is nearing completion.

Project success begins long before design work begins, and thoughtful risk management is foundational to the process.

On Wednesday, August 12, Tony Aeck, FAIA, Senior Principal at Lord Aeck Sargent, will join industry leaders for AIA Atlanta's Architects Roundtable, "An Ounce of Prevention Is Worth a Pound of Cure: Mitigating Your Legal Risks in the Pursuit of a Project." Together, experts from architecture, law, and insurance will share practical strategies for navigating owner agreements, contractual risk, and professional liability to help architects make informed decisions before projects begin. We look forward to contributing to the conversation.

Could Chastain Park become Atlanta's next favorite sunset spot?

Lord Aeck Sargent is proud to be working with the Chastain Park Conservancy to lead the design team to bring The Palisades to life, reimagining 30 acres of long-inaccessible land as a place to gather, unwind, and connect with nature. Featuring scenic overlooks and spaces designed for quiet reflection, the project will offer a new way to experience one of Atlanta's most beloved parks.

Read more about the vision for the project in Axios's latest story.

Plans would open roughly 30 hidden acres with trails, lawns and creek views if fundraising reaches its goal.
