Urban Farmers and Gardeners Sharing knowledge about farming wherever you are and with whatever you have. What I don't know (which is plenty) I hope to learn from you.

I am a fifth generation farmer...only I do mine on an acre in Historic College Park. The folks on this page are my friends...even if I haven't met them...and I love them all for being here.

Happy New Year everyone! I miss this page and engaging with you all. What are some goals you'd like to see happen with you and your garden this coming year?

Me? I am planting American Chestnuts which are endangered...and I am going to make my garden more presentable for visitors.

Hello everyone!

I know you are all in various stages of quarantine at home, but I think, since we are a special bunch of folk, for us to each share what we are doing at home...to pass the time...to make the best of a very trying situation. I haven't shared much about myself here, but there's no time like now to do that...and for us all to know each other better...and to find the silver linings that are truly all around us. In case you didn't know, my name is Jake. I live in a very small town outside of Atlanta, GA called College Park. I found an old bait and tackle shop and an old cricket hatchery here and after a lot of challenges (see Money Pit) I have created a loft farm house on an acre. This property was part of a farm and there are old growth pecans along with some figs. I've added more figs and peach trees, grapes and herbs. I also have chickens, ducks, peacocks and an elderly turkey named Jim Tom. My friend Chelsea and I plan to create a figgery here and she has succeeded in propagating quite a few varieties of figs. If I get a little time off (I am still working) I plan to clear a few areas to plant some Magnolia figs that Chelsea gave me. I can't wait to just dig and plant and smell the smells. The pollen here is nearly unbearable but we are expecting rain in a few hours and that should help a lot with this green mess. I am also anxious to plant herb seeds. Now...how about you?

I have a flock of ducks...somewhat recently...and they are now fighting with each other...mercilessly. I am trying to learn as much as I can and thought you might like to know some of this stuff too. Enjoy!

It's been far too long since I've posted anything...and I've missed you guys! Tonight's post is about feral cats.

Several (I believe three) cats have been living on and near the farm for five years. They've all been captured, fixed and released by some amazing neighbors. We are now making a plan for how they will become "farmhands" helping us keep down the rodent population that is decimating our feed.

I'll keep you posted and I'd love to hear YOUR stories about the same thing...

Kirsty Pascoe is an avid gardener who has applied permaculture principles to her back yard and her cats. Cats have been kept by mankind for centuries, some for pure companionship, some revered for their specific breed traits, some for their hunting abilities. Farmers more than anyone know how useful...
