A glass cutter scores the surface. It creates a tiny fracture line, not a cut. The actual break happens after, when controlled pressure is applied along that score to separate the two sides cleanly.

That's why the straightedge matters as much as the tool. One wobble in the score and the fracture travels wherever it wants, not where you need it. On mirror, you only get one pass. There's no fixing a bad line.
