Project 046: Custom Topo Coffee Table.

Our most recent topo table, featuring the breathtaking terrain of the Himalayan Mountains, serves as both a conversation starter and a functional centerpiece for our client’s living room. The table features solid cedar construction and an open bottom supported by square columns, providing a more substantial style than our typical tables featuring hairpin legs. The piece was finished with a tinted danish oil to protect the surface while highlighting the cedar grain.

Project 042: Topo Table, Lake Crescent.

This topographic table features the terrain of Lake Crescent in Washington state. My client wanted to display the natural beauty of this region and remind them of special memories made there.

The topography was taken from USGS datasets, converted into a Digital Elevation Model using QGIS and manipulated in Autodesk Fusion before being engraved on a ShopBot CNC Router. The rest of the table was handmade in solid cherry. The signature Topoform copper patina was applied on the topography to give it the metallic texture. A sheet of tempered glass covers the inlay and completes the table.

The table was hand-delivered in December, just in time to serve as a surprise holiday gift.

Special Project: Custom bookcase.

Our client was looking for a large, freestanding bookcase to expand her library, as the existing one was overflowing with literature.

Inspired by traditional furniture of the 19th and 20th centuries, the piece features organic forms to break up the otherwise geometric design, including arches, chamfers and a custom-embossed floral trim. The bookcase was constructed from baltic birch plywood with solid cherry trim and accents.

As with all Topoform projects, the finish color takes into account the existing decor and color palette of the space in which it resides.

Project 037: Record Cabinet.

My client wanted a vinyl record cabinet/turntable stand to replace their old one as they settled into their new home. The old cabinet did not match the furniture in the rest of the room and they wanted a larger piece that would stand the test of time.

Using measurements provided by my client, I was able to design a piece that wouldn’t interfere with the light switches and outlets in the spot they wanted to put it. The cabinet provides three levels for record storage, and the top level is divided into thirds to accommodate bookshelf speakers. The back panel has holes on each side for cable routing to the turntable, which sits on top.

I used baltic birch plywood for this piece, along with solid oak edge trim on the front. Multiple stain samples were provided to choose from, and the one we selected matches the surrounding furniture perfectly.

While this was a pretty straightforward project, there were still a lot of considerations to be made to provide the perfect piece for my clients.
