Corner Shelves installed on your shower tile walls. First, clean the grout line where shelf will be attached. Rubbing alcohol cleans the surface for good adhesion. Use Polystyrene Liquid Nails (Not Water base liquid Nails) or a two-part epoxy sold at lumber stores. Carefully draw two level lines on the wall at the corner. Use two paint sticks or wood strips to steady shelf while epoxy sets up. Heat your hot glue gun. I use a blow dryer to warm the tile so the hot glue and the tile are same temperature. Apply two shots of hot glue to each wood strip and stick wood on level line. Take your corner shelf (clean back edge with alcohol) and apply epoxy on back edge. Carefully lay shelf on wood strip and press into the corner. Have two strips of blue tape ready to hold shelf in place as your 5-minute epoxy sets up. Next day, remove tape and pop wood strips off. Clean excess hot glue off tile with razor blade. Now enjoy your shower accessories at the height most comfortable for you. To Niche or Not To Niche?

Some contractors have success with a “Plastic” pre-made wall niche, but I prefer Kerdi-board or Prova-Board because thin-set bonds better to these waterproof surfaces compared to plastic. If you use a plastic niche, I recommend a two-part epoxy glue (2-3 minute set time) to insure the adhesion will hold. Call Rob Reuss for your next remodel project. Staircase Makeover
44 hours to complete this open concept. Begin your staircase transformation by calculating the necessary distance between stair treads and location of new bottom rail. Do not remove too much of existing 2x4 walls. Better to cut twice than to remove too much. Not shown is the removal of drywall in basement ceiling to install 6x6 wood blocking to secure newel post securing blocks. Set newel posts straight and plum. Before gluing and nailing newel post determine the height of the newel post to insure proper height of handrail. Drywall and painting should be done before securing new handrails and balusters. Deck Staining. When staining a deck, use proper staging blanks, ladders and always protect the house and property. Use oil based stain - it penetrates the wood. Stains that are water based and have too much colorant or act like paint typically do not bond well.
